The commission is still democratically representative even if indirectly as long as member states are democracies.

If you want all European institutions to be directly elected you essentially want the EU to no longer be a confederation and instead be a federation.

National governments having power in EU affairs is by design because otherwise the EU would never have formed.

Indeed, containers and static linking are just hiding the problem.

> each software is installed in it's own folder, and the search path for dynamic linking starts in the binary's folder.

I think the benefit of this is that an app can be fat but doesn't have to. And an app can be made fat afterwards if need be. The app folder is just the starting point for searching. If the library is not there it is probably shared.

Wrappers and a build system that tweaks everything feel like a hack, not a system wide solution.

There is also Gobo Linux. I wonder if they solved this.

What is the philosophy behind why it's not done like this Linux? Also, what about Nix?

It also has the appeal of being descriptive instead of being prescriptive. (Just like linguists for English vs French). Tropes aren't good or bad, they just are. And with time they become fashionable or unfashionable.

Traditional literally criticism always had a prescriptive feel to me. In the worst cases, it was just elitist hate.

Note that many artifacts considered masterpieces today were disregarded at the time of their making

I would like to see how your solution handles the case of new countries or countries changing name. Recompile and push an update? If the environment is governmental this can take a very very very long time.

The proper solution, in my opinion, is a lookup table stored in the database. It can be updated, it can be cached, it can be extended.

And for transfer of data, use formats to which you can attach a schema. This way type data is not lost on export. XML did this but everyone hates XML. And everyone hates XSD (the schema format) even more. However, if you use the proper tools with it, it is just wonderful.

Desired position: Senior Developer/Engineering Manager/Software Architect
I have been employed in software development for almost 10 years and have written code for significantly longer. I am a deep specialist in databases and a good generalist in most other areas. I built myself as a T-shaped developer. I have worked databases, back-end, front-end (web and native, mobile and desktop) and testing throughout my time. With databases, I have experience with everything from relational algebra theory (I studied C.J. Date) to database design and normalisation to query, procedure and index optimisation. Throughout my career, I have developed a systemic viewpoint and an ability to understand how different components of a project and different teams interact together, all in order to walk the path of technical leadership. As a true engineer, I understand the importance of measuring before changing. Also, I am a sociable person and I have a teaching degree and have taught on numerous occasions with excellent results. Due to my experience, I am currently aiming for a software architect/engineering manager/team lead role, or a role with growth opportunities toward a similar tech leadership position, a position in which I can grow and polish the skills of colleagues. From a tech stack POV, I am most excited by opportunities to work in Rust and opportunities to work on free open-source software. If you are looking to make the world a better place and need an engineer contact me.
