This is one of the few non-self-focused views I have seen posted on this thread.

So many other people are jumping to discuss the topic in terms of other people like themselves or better off.

The "machine" is very much way more than superficial stuff.

Some gears in the machine are being set aside as non-functional, but the machine is so large that it still keeps "working" without those gears, and ignores the potential net-win if we cared enough to get them back in play.

It is like paying down technical debt. Sure, you can run your system as-is and pay the bills, but ideally you'd optimize for memory and CPU and pay less in the long-run. It is a hard problem to take on as we all know given other priorities and the perceived low cost of doing nothing about it right now.

Those gears are not RAM or CPU though, they are your fellow humans, and we need to act as such. I am sickened by by some of the comments here boiling this all down to an out-of-touch algorithmic and/or privileged viewpoint.

> Millionaires don't need to work, yet still do, so looking at them provides a unique view into the human condition.

Does it tho?, "lets look harder at why the millionaires work.. that seems like a good starting point." /s

Imagine reading this and extracting out a perspective focusing on why millionaires keep working. Hard cringe.

I think it depends a lot on what they put in the "____" for:

> or if you've been spending more time doing ___

Was ____ "watching Netflix", or was ____ "helping person X who is doing more interesting work and whom you are not being paid to help/work with."

Uh... curious, what did they actually fill in the "____" with?

> or if you've been spending more time doing ___

Like, are they referring to other work-related tasks that maybe they shouldn't be focusing on, or are they suggesting non-work stuff is going on (even if that is that case), cause that would seem like a huge red flag to gtfo asap.

"overpowered" is a relative term.

Overpowered for full-range use in the city at night or while passing on a freeway, or overpowered for enjoyment of a hobby in the intended usage setting. You can be right and wrong at the same time here.

I realize this sounds like a BS "guns don't kill people, people do" argument, but in this case the actual problematic outcomes usually really do boil down to the person operating the vehicle and their level or maturity and respect.

Sounds like the actual problem is in how and where people are using those high powered engines, not the engine themselves. Those noises are actually part of the fun of ownership and a welcome symphony of sound among like-minded people in setting designed for it.

I'm surprised there are so many comments on this obvious click bait.

I've never use another product like this again after my experience with Parse.

Sounds like you haven't used them but also state it is no different than others, how did you come to that conclusion?

EDIT: I missed the part about you being a home detailing enthusiast. Of course it can never compare to a real good hand wash/detail, but that is not the same market at all. I am a car enthusiast myself... one car I hand wash/detail, the other goes to Mister Car Wash.

While it seems easy to dismiss it as just another car wash, Mister Car Wash really does feel like they have invented a better mouse trap in old and stale market and I am not surprised at all at the valuation.

I have never seen a touch-less version of a Mister Car Wash, but that is the only downside.

For what it is, it is by far better than any other automated car wash I have ever experienced (which is a lot). I have been an unlimited member for 3 years (full exterior and exterior package) and bounce around a few locations in my area.

Everything appears new and well-maintained and updated often, the staff are great, the facilities inside and out are clean, they are fast and efficient. The car wash actually cleans and dries you car very well. When I have the interior cleaned, they do a very good job at that too. Overall, the whole experience is so much better and cheaper than other options.

Totally, but that is something I'm not sure we should ever expect.

1) they got crap requirements from the company to begin with

2) even if they got great requirements, if they could talk about them all fluently, they would probably be a developer themselves and not a recruiter.

The initial intro and description can be handled via email or text. If not, well that is a red flag right away.

> They're not saying the company name because they don't want you going there directly and applying without them getting their hefty bonus

Of course, but I'm not sure why that is my problem. Does the company want good people, or just the best they can afford after recruiter fees? If the recruiter can talk the talk, I'll hang with them vs going direct, and they will get the commission. If not, they won't get the placement anyway. They would be better off telling me the company and making a case for themselves why I should work with them (dealing with salary negotiation etc) vs hiding details and ending up up with me bailing early on the opportunity. The typical approach is short-sighted imo.

This was the topic of an episode of Omnibus https://www.omnibusproject.com/83

"Twice a week, Ken Jennings and John Roderick add a new entry to the OMNIBUS, an encyclopedic reference work of strange-but-true stories that they are compiling as a time capsule for future generations."
