Be kind. Don't be snarky. Converse curiously; don't cross-examine. Edit out swipes.

>Expose brain to something, record it somehow, see if brains reaction in the recording helps you understand more about who we are and what cognition is.

It also helps companies like Moonbug Entertainment (Candle Media) understand how to build better Distractatrons.

It’s a small TV screen, placed a few feet from the larger one, that plays a continuous loop of banal, real-world scenes — a guy pouring a cup of coffee, someone getting a haircut — each lasting about 20 seconds. Whenever a youngster looks away from the Moonbug show to glimpse the Distractatron, a note is jotted down.

“It’s not mega-interesting, what’s on the Distractatron,” said Maurice Wheeler, who runs the research group. “But if they aren’t fully focused, they might go, ‘Oh, what’s that?’ and kind of drift over. We can see what they’re looking at and the exact moment when they got distracted.”

>That’s just how some humans write.

Sure, but we can't handwave away every observation about LLM output with "(some of) the original training corpora came from humans". Qualitatively, the vibes are off™.

Individual account signup date is an unreliable proxy for lifetime HN experience :^)

Further, https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47340079 suggests HN is facing a sea change unlike any past fad (Big Data, VR/AR, NFT, Web3, ...). Due to Brandolini's law, it cannot simply be disregarded with the "semi-noob illusion as old as the hills" cudgel.

This may actually be a solid way to tackle the bullshit asymmetry problem caused by drive-by LLM sloppers.

>I wonder if the script itself was written by an LLM before obfuscation?

I seem to recall seeing an Akamai-branded base64'd shell script on a white shirt pre-2021(?), so unless they've changed the code since then, I doubt it...

Flagged activity can also trigger account-level review across relevant conversations and risk signals, consistent with our terms and policies around content retention and review. Looking beyond a single conversation helps our systems distinguish persistent malicious behavior from legitimate dual-use security work, where similar technical concepts may appear in very different contexts.
Fascinating!

Every conversation you have with these "more capable" models will be monitored and joined up and then your entire account might one day be tagged as Distiller or Cyber Threat Actor or whatnot. When combined with identity verification (which isn't discussed in this press release), expect people to be falsely flagged and banned from ever using OpenAI models again.

Wish I could find the thread from last week where discussions of exactly this kind of thing were dismissed as daft and outlandish.

Filter what? Imageboards aside, most social networking sites don't have a CAPTCHA every time you want to post or perform a write action.

Some AI folks want to bifurcate the meaning of "token" towards a spendable store of value, rather than characters processed by a tokenizer.

"Donate tokens". "Gift tokens". Semantic drift?

I'm going to do a simonw here and coin "Markdown hoarding" for the Claudeism of producing reams of hyper-dense prose and compounding it with every commit that touches docs. The documentation gets more and more bloated.

The default Claude voice is breathless, jargon-heavy showboating:

WebRTC transport (trickle ICE) — RTCPeerConnection data channels with trickle signaling; same-machine mDNS-loopback rewrite. Browser/device-verified. peerd-distributed/transport/transports/webrtc.js

TOFU rootfs integrity pin — pure decision logic: trust-on-first-use pin of base-image size + first-64KiB SHA-256, verified each boot, fails closed on drift. Head-only by construction — a faithful-head/tampered-tail host is an acknowledged residual gap. peerd-engine/image-pin.js (partial)

    PDF reading (read_pdf) — pdf.js text-layer extraction with opt-in SRI-pinned OCR engine + page assembly. pdf/, tools/defs/read-pdf.js
This isn't a critique of the author, more of Opus, but I'd be curious what effect https://github.com/blader/humanizer/blob/main/SKILL.md might have.

The model considered it.

There are 25 or so mentions of fp16 and fp32 weights across the 7500+ words of Markdown text it generated. So the next question might be: Did it make the right calls?
