It doesn't seem that YCombinator really does have to answer to investors. The amount of money invested into YCombinator is trivial compared to the profits those same investors made (and will make) off of the exits that YC helped generate. VCs look at YCombinator as an efficient sales pipeline.

If you want to have some fun, think back to the last time you bought a ticket from ticketmaster, especially if you bought on the phone. Look at your card statements for that month and the next, look for random $1 charges. Ticketmaster used to be notorious for randomly charging customers credit cards based on some ridiculous scripts you never actually listened to. If you'd call the number associated with the charge and enter in the charge ID, it would automatically refund it.. They knew they were defrauding people, and they knew the stakes were too low for anything to happen as long as they refunded it.

I might argue that depends upon your enjoyment of driving versus riding. I for one dislike driving, and used to enjoy the 2 hours of caltrain time (I live a block from the SF stop) time to and from palo alto. I often got two uninterrupted hours of reading and listening to music in every day.
