Uhhhhh I guess hacknernews doesn't let you delete comments or even edit them (wtf??) But it looks like I read the previous comment wrong and responded to something that wasn't actually said.
Had a convo in my CS class about it today. Literally a room full of 19-20 something males, many who are avid gamers, or want to make tech it into a job... I was the only one who had anything to say about nn. People really don't know.
I'm in the same boat as you, what I'm currently planning on doing is getting the 'cs undergrad' experience by taking a bunch of the lower division classes at my local community college, then doing the upper ones through the university's program of extended studies (the one I'm trying for) then just going straight for the masters. There are some risks, ergo, if I don't reach the master's then I won't have much to show for it other than the classes I took (don't see that happening but still possible), and its going to take awhile; at least 5 more semesters, just to finish math prereqs (up to linear algebra). I don't think the latter is very avoidable, no matter where I go however, and the former is a factor of the later.
It's a mistake to make any sort of broad claims about human nature because we are products of our material conditions. Hierarchies may have been a part of our past, present and even near future, but I don't think they are an intrinsic aspect of what it means to be human, because if anything hierarchies increasingly give way to egalitarianism the more advanced we become.
You can train yourself to have perfect pitch too, it's a lot like relative pitch but you use music you know well as the starting tone. "This note sounds like the opening chord in x song, so it must be A major".
Vyvanse, to put simply, causes your liver to synthesize dextroamohetamine (75% of adderalls active ingredients). Its effects on your body are similar to adderall. Levoamphetamine, 25% of adderalls active ingredients (what causes adderalls body high), supposedly has neurotoxic effects on the brain, lending some credence to that author's claim. Basically these amphetamines cause your brain to eject dopamine. This is contrasted with Ritalin/concerta/cocaine which act as dopamine reuptake inhibitors, preventing your brain from absorbing the dopamine thereby casing it to over produce in order compensate. Based on what I've read reuptake inhibitors aren't neurotoxic, and can actually guard against some of the neurotoxicity of adderall/levoamphetmine.
Its a western tendency to look for alternate interpretations of speech ("what is this really saying?") contrasted with Chinese style of writing which is typically very literal.
True, and it's also not for everyone. Maybe things will change when I'm older but speaking from my perspective, I was born and raised in a dense suburb, moved to the countryside because my folks grew up in the country and wanted to leave the dense suburb/corporate dystopia or what have you. Its just not for me, I'm a city boy. I like being close to other people. I feel comfortable with busy areas (like a downtown district or a beach). My teenage years spent on a 1.5 acre lot was filled with lots of manual labor (help build a retaining wall, care for horses and other livestock) so in my mind I see living in a metropolitan area as an easier life.
That's not to say I don't appreciate the outdoors and nature, I do immensely. I just think the whole 'gotta get away from it all' attitude is interesting because it's the exact opposite for me, what I guess could be described as the 'feeling of missing out'.
Do you know why this works? Because it jostles the sternocleidomastoid muscle which connects to the base of your skull behind your ears.
If this technique cures/helps your tinnitus its because you probably sit/stand with bad posture. You can attain more lasting results by regularly stretching that muscle (massage/pull on it). This will not cure hearing-loss related tinnitus.
Personal experience: this not only cured my tinnitus, but also cured a pattern of headaches I was experiencing as well as pain from my eyes that I thought was due to eye strain (from being latched onto a computer screen).
I am an active XC user, been one for about a year, give or take. I like using it that I love that it's FLOSS, just waiting for the browser extension to usable. It'd be nice to have some way of easily syncing to my phone as well. Outside of that, great app.
