It's pretty much like this everywhere in Italy. I'm originally from southern Italy and my father worked as a laborer for a local municipality. About 20 years ago, during excavation work to rebuild a wall, he personally unearthed some pottery that turned out to be the contents of a Magna Graecia storehouse dating back roughly 3,000 years. Another time, more recently, on the outskirts of my hometown, during roadwork to repave a sidewalk, a Greek tomb dating back approximately 2,400 years was discovered. The lands around the Mediterranean have been inhabited for so long that wherever you dig, you're very likely to find some kind of artifact.

Even sooner than that. I bought a dedicated server on auction and it was ready 2h after the payment.

Long time ventoy user, here. I absolutely love this software, there's always a usb stick with ventoy and a bunch of useful isos in my pocket.

The really intriguing feature is the ability to run vDisk files (as long as there's a linux distro within it) thanks to the VtoyBoot plugin[1]. I'm actually trying to build my own customized arch version with all my software (and potentially keys) installed so I can get rid of having to bring around any hardware. The only problem I'm facing is that it seems that ventoy boot does not work very well with luks containers.

Since I'm a big user of proxmox and all my systems are debian-based I recently began to use proxmox backup server also for my physical machines! It's quite fast, supports defuplication and I can donwload or mount backup archives. It sadly lacks a good ux, but I'm still evaulating it because pbs is a tool that I'm already using heavily, so I don't mind reducing the amount of individual software needed to carry on my work.

As the title says, what are your opinions on self hosting a mail server nowadays?

Just as a challenge to myself, I tried to set up a mail server in my personal homelab and I successfully made it not being marked as spam or rejected. It's still an early-stage experiment for me, but it has run for the past 6 months without a problem.

I also wrote a blog post, describing how I got there, I'd like you all to take a review and give me some comments or opinions on how to make the content more useful and easy to read (don't be cruel, please, it's my first post!).
