Your "proof" is some admirer claiming this guy discovered it [1] ? You realize, even if this were true, he'd (atleast) be third in the game. Also where pray tell me where is this glorious "proof" you were bandying about earlier ?
"Legend", you might want to look up the word. Or may be words are not quite for the big-mouthed ? ggrks man!
> Pythagoras' school provided the earliest documented proof of the theorem, but the result was possibly known as early as 3000 BC.
Actually there is no known evidence Pythagoras or his school had any relation to the theorem. Much of it is word-of-mouth legend (and even then not particularly informative).
It's amusing when the same people accept legends from Europe as canonical, while treating similar historical data in India as literally non-existent.
> Don't be too enamored. These are fairly standard right wing talking points in India. From his comments on Gandhi and Pythagoras one can easily infer that he is a supporter of Narendra Modi and Hindu supremacy.
> As for Gandhi, he grew up in a strictly birth based hierarchical society and he pretty much accepted social and racial hierarchies until his thoughts evolved circa 1913. Most of Gandhi's racist quotes come from before 1910.
I guess the Native Americans too were "supremacists". How about the Bantus, don't forget them, man! ... These narratives get mind-numbingly boring; much as it does to hear of the BJP as some great establishment challengers. Eesh, don't you sheep read anything other than the Hindu's editorials ? In any case, this has typically been the talking point of the status quo-ists and pro-establishment ones for .. what 300 years ?
I'd not keep my hopes up with such creatures though since they have neither the afflictions of reading nor of reason. Social creatures will exploit the status-quo for maximum gain, and anyone who claims we (even in the occident) don't live in a hierarchical society are naive fools not worth arguing with.
Don't you think that's a bit strange ? The dude was helping the massacre the Bantus in Africa and suddenly becomes a "messiah" in a few years after returning to India ? I mean that is a miracle [1]. I wish historical figures were reassessed every few years in light of contemporary ethics, but this never happens with those the establishment wants you to see in positive light.
His antics are well-documented (with lots of references here).
He probably single-handedly delayed India's independence by ~20-30 years (was't that convenient).
[1] Okay that was a bit of an exaggeration since the Liberal movement essentially believed that it was the burden of the white race to civilize the barbarians (to paraphrase John Locke). Indians were I guess A-san (3rd class ? Or may be 2nd back in those days)... which is what Gandhi too believed.
Much of modern history is a throwback of the colonial times when the "barbarians" from the West were trying to search for some great past of their people. Thus much of what is attributed to the Greeks and Romans today should belong to the civilizations of Asia (India, China, and Iran).
Pythagorean theorem has nothing to do with Pythagoras or the Greeks even [3] ! There is nice interview of Manjul Bhargava (surrounding a dredged up controversy in India) that delves into the actual history (rather than mindlessly parroting the liberal propaganda).
I'm glad to hear the Chinese school system does not brainwash people as does the Indian one.
Then again, India is a country created by pedophiles [1] and drug-runners [2].
[1] Gandhi is well-known for giving women enemas and sleeping naked with under aged girls. This more than qualifies for the contemporary semantic definitions. There are many other rumors that one can find on the intertubes.
[2] Tagores, Tatas, Birlas... all of them made their fortunes in the British opium trade... ironically to China (this is well-documented; even on Wiki).
Interestingly, two of India's Nobels come from this coterie... and we're forced to sing a poorly written poem by one of them, day in day out, by the "Indian nationalists".
The banking overlords have also made sure Gandhi remains in our pockets. Eesh! what a tragic state of affairs.
Also guess who called Gandhi a "Mahatma" ? Interestingly neither of them particularly cared for India becoming independent (if you look at their writing).
Amusingly there is some controversy about India's anthem being written to commemorate George V's coronation. There are counterarguments for this, but the anthem is referring to a person like a King or a deva - the latter possibility would be very very weird to be honest [4]. Not surprising he got a Knighthood and a Nobel.
All said, calling India a nation of idiots at this point would be a compliment.
[4] "Bhagya Vidhata" is very very Abrahamic (whose view of God is that of a ill-tempered King). In canonical circles, a deva is mostly for support "उपदि", not someone who decides the outcomes or luck of people - this is completely antithetical to Indian thought. Even if we circulate in non-scholarly circles, the semantics implied by Jana Gana Mana would still not fit well to any one deva.
P.S: What are you blue-pill muchers downvoting me for ? Can't you read? These things are referenced!
Pray tell me, oh self-conceited one, what I missed that is both in actual use and in that book ? For things outside this set, you'd not read this book anyway; nor would such things be called "deep learning" (other than may be RBMs).
The only "math" in deep learning is given by reverse mode AD (or if you're into fancy stuff, "efficient computing of pullbacks"). The rest of it plain old hacking, and empirical tricks with the occasional variational doodads.
"Why are parish school students so Christian". This is not to say that they viscerally believe in these qualities... oh nooo. It's just that if you want to play the game, you optimize for the environment (I may have picked that up from Alan Watts). Simple RL really.
Idiots, and loudmouths, on the other hand will get ostracized and have pots broken over their heads; one shouldn't be surprised if something one writes on a public forum will get one fired from school/work (may have happened to the younger me once). This is not the depressing thing though - no the depressing thing is that the rules of the game are never explained clearly. In this sense, the Western liberal dogma is essentially the Christian one of grovelling expiation. You know... one can be as bad in action, but words and "belief", expressed tirelessly over and over, are key to salvation [1]. Terrible, terrible messaging to the naive younglings.
This probably explains why some (generally poor) idiots in the Midwest send tons of money to "harvest Asia in the name of Christ" (well atleast to those in power), while jumping up an down to keep these "loved" people away from their neighborhood. Then there is the New Age movement, "meditating" and "yoga-ing" for "peace" "health" and "environment" (and lots of greens), while showing total disdain for the path [2]... Namast.. No, fk you!
All this facade gets really really tiring.
[1] The laity in much of Asia believe in very similar things to be fair... although they don't get bonked on the head with a book everytime they are out of line.
Considering the glut of neural network libraries, it'd be useful if there were some blurb about what makes this "special".
To clarify myself, "what niche does this belong to". Caffe for instance remains (to the misery of people like me) the standard library on which reference CNNs are implemented (other than that little pony's YOLO :P).
Tensorflow/MXnet/Chainer/Torch have nice dynamic interfaces... but basically are doing the same thing underneath (calling cuDNN/GEMM), and have the backing of well-known researchers/big corporations (maybe not Chainer...).
I'm not going to waterdown my analysis for some two bit politically correct occidentals and "hyper-nationalist" orientals.
A large fraction of Indian children will be illiterate in these "thriving" languages in the coming decades, with "zero" monetary loss. Not living is death, and they haven't been alive for a long time - I can neither get any Govt. services in my mother tongues, nor can get the laws done by the colonial state in Delhi.
A zombie is not alive IMO. If Indians wish to parlay their tongues for money, it's upto them. I for one will not deceive myself. We are going to be part of the borg that is the Anglosphere in less than 3-4 generations.
To be fair, the Wikipedia sites for these languages barely have any content. Of those that do exist most articles are essentially 2-line blurbs. These languages are essentially dead for all practical purposes.
There are deep cnn models for doing joint recognition detection at around 60fps (at 300x300) at reasonable accuracy 75%.
This is arguably the most expensIve part of the pipeline, but we sHould have atleast two more architectures out by NVDA/AMD before any product comes out.
