A two-week old perspective looking more like a 2-year old perspective.

why not? It would def help with a job search? It's not minimal effort, but AI can do a pretty good job with it as long as you feed your resume and the job description. It does make applying for each job more time consuming, but not a whole lot more.

I think that's basically the Elon playbook. He did it with the supercharger team as well at Tesla.

It doesn't say any of that.

Not everything is a vast left-wing antifa conspiracy.

vs buying frozen french fries --- which takes 10 mins on a countertop airfryer.

It's not that people don't know how to fry from fresh potato, it's just that the time it takes to do so is a lot. For restaurants especially, frozen is also just more cost-effective after accounting for labour.

Dude, ignore these people. HN has the weirdest bunch of computer nerds that hasn't taken a history class in their lives.

For everyone else, Singapore is important because it sits right at the end of the historical trade route of the Straits of Malacca. There is a whole wikipedia entry about it.

This is how most non-profits work. TBH, for something as widely-used as Python, everything from headcount to expenditures are extremely modest.

I think the suit points out that google does restrict choice. For pricing, Google's search dominance raises the prices of word advertising.

I don't do these things. I didn't realized that printers have CUPS server installed on them now. I find it kind of wild. Like, why?

I think the other comments still hold, Just because there are customers, it doesn't mean that you can make profit from them. Not sure what their margins are, but someone in an older comment said that Redboxes require foot traffic of 10k+. These things seem to require at a least weekly visits, restock, etc. Also been awhile since I have seen a Redbox, but do they take cash? I thought they were Credit Cards only.

other issues aside, why are people always so obsessed about what happens when "there's an emergency"? I remember 15 years ago, when unlimited-talk cellphone plans began to be price-competitive with copper-wire home phones, all these people were trying to justify having copper-wire home phone lines because of "emergencies". "What if the power went out? How would you call 911?"

I mean, that's kind of what historians have to do. They have to extrapolate. Any event that happens in the past, you kind of have to. Even in relatively recent past. But yeah, I had the same question as well.

I am sure, a Roman soldier, in the centuries that the Pilum was in use, must have used one in a thrust and either killed or injured an enemy soldier. But based on the historical evidence he has, the Pilum was intended to be and probably mostly used as a throwing weapon.

That would be like a future historian asking whether WWI soldiers used their single-bolt rifles as clubs rather than as projectile weapons.

I own one and tried it for a business trip. It's a cool nerd-toy. It's not cheap and not always easy to setup for anyone who is not technically savvy.

I like it, but I wonder if I want to carry it when I go carry-on only in Europe. I guess most people will trade some privacy and inconvience for weight- and cost-savings.

This is kinda how history of ideas work. People just kind of think they think and know things independently from within themselves or something.

Historians who study the origins of idea traces them back and make connections to thoughts and ideas of the past. Often, the inheritors of those ideas knows nothing of how they get them and think themselves clever for coming up with them all by themselves.
