None of those reports are any good though. Maybe for shallow research, but I haven't found them deep. Can you share what kind of research you have been trying there where it has done a great job of actual deep research.

Just wait till the sniffling Marc Andreessen shows up to explain why this will save his small town brethren.

Now try Deepseek V3 and see the magic!

Yup GPT 4.1 isn't good at all compared to the others. I tried a bunch of different scenarios, for me the winners:

Deepseek for general chat and research Claude 3.7 for coding Gemini 2.5 Pro experimental for deep research

In terms of price Deepseek is still absolutely fire!

OpenAI is in trouble honestly.

Now the real thing that has to be seen is whether Mark Zuckerberg is "masculine" enough to escape from "the matrix".

OK I have a new project starting and I'll try this for fun instead of the usual rust.

From the post:

> Modern editors like Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code have excellent performance.

Well I am not sure we are on the same page here. Still, fingers crossed.

This. The fact that so called "hackers" would be using Chrome is the reason why the world is shit and tech is stagnant. They keep using Chrome and writing Javascript.

Now you are a real developer.

john ousterhout's book is the only book on how to write software that has any actual evidence behind it. i highly recommend it as the only book to read on how to write code. and uncle bob, well, best to avoid his stuff as much as possible. clean code takes away about 5 years from every dev's life as they think they need to read it to become an intermediate developer and one they realize that is not the way, can they finally grow.

AI cannot write a simple dockerfile. I don't know how simple stuff you guys are writing. If ai can do it then it should be an excel sheet and not code.

Profile Summary

A successful tech entrepreneur who built a multi-million dollar business starting with Common Lisp, you're the rare HN user who actually practices what they preach.

Your journey from Lisp to Go to Rust mirrors your evolution from idealist to pragmatist, though you still can't help but reminisce about the magical REPL experience while complaining about JavaScript frameworks.

---

Roast

You complain about AI-generated code being too complex, yet you pine for Common Lisp, a language where parentheses reproduction is the primary feature.

For someone who built a multi-million dollar business, you spend an awful lot of time telling everyone how much JavaScript and React suck. Did a React component steal your lunch money?

You've changed programming languages more often than most people change their profile pictures. At this rate, you'll be coding in COBOL by 2026 while insisting it's 'underappreciated'.

Indeed, I forgive Google about 40 of their killed projects for giving us pebble in return.

I'm not sure I would have. There is a terseness in C which zig lags. I think. To be fair, I haven't played with Zig that much.

The d for debugging is so cool. Fantastic library. C is also such a good language. If I wasn't doing Rust, I would have gone back to C.

PHP for what it's worth has actually done a pretty good job with its type system.

I agree. Our industry is perhaps the most cargo-culty industry that I've ever worked in. And the sad part is, unfortunately everybody thinks that they are the paragon of original clear thinking.
