Sounds horrendous.

Seriously though thats a different type of communication though? Can you host slack on prem?
jaffa2
·어제·discuss
Yes. How do you do it otherwise?

Heres an somewhat contrived example scenario.

I’m going to McDonalds what do you want— a big mac meal sure no problem.

Get there. Oh wait what did he want for a drink? Coke? Coffee? Water?

Send a text what you want to drink?

No answer — what do you do?

Instead text should be saying ‘getting u a coke unless you let me know’

No answer in time, so you just get a coke for your friend and if he doesn’t like it tough.

So in that sense i guess yes its a polite notice. But it points to failures in the process .

You should have known what he wanted to drink before going.

You have or now create a policy that states in cases of unknown drink or default is coke.

If your guys ‘don’t’ know whether they can drop feature X or ship late they have been failed by the level above that should state shipping is priority. Therefore dropping a feature is the only action that they can take.

But in take the other point that you do need some authority . Without it progress will stall, and this becomes management issue again. They didn’t ensure you had the info or resource to do the thing.

Edit to add after thinking about it a bit more, that when dealing with customers a slow customer can stall your whole op if you make waiting on a decision from them. Just tell then what you are doing and it lets you proceed. If they come back later with opposite decision then you just do that as well, typically.

Outputting files to a customer :

Do you want them named like this or like that?

No— tell them how you are naming them and if they dont like it theybwil let you know.

Its about removing decisions from customer as most of the time they dont even know what they want

in his email he says :

Please reply by 3 pm today so we can confirm with the client.

in my experience when an action relies on somebody 'coming back' ESPECIALLY if it's a client. (do you want this, or that?)

It's best to tell them what you are going to do, unless they confirm otherwise.

e.g. We will proceed with removing feature Y to meet deadline of Mar 19, unless otherwise directed by 3pm today.

This avoids the limbo situtation where a team can't progress because they don't have clarity on X or Y.

Not always applicable but I find it works a lot of the time.

After sending emails to suppliers, they would often answer the first point in the text but ignore later points. This speaks to the send only 1 thing in an email, but if you have a few questions about something then put them in a numbered list.

I found response quality went way up when i did this, and often the responses were along the lines of :

1. do this 2. yes that's right 3. ok we note that

which i'm sure helps them becuaes the email is easier to read and parse in the first place and easier to write a reply to.

in the youtube video, by 'product' do they mean 'website' ?

I feel I'm missing some basics as to what this can do for me or what problem it solves.

edit so it's like google analytics .

well. perhaps through some kind of reverse psychology, i decided to check it out. turns out its a podcast player. which IS of interest to me since the apple podcast player is truly horrendous to use.

The migration of podcasts from apple podcast to this is quite good.

I don't understand what the X and tick buttons do. Interface is pretty dense, with pop up fucntions I count about 6 'rows' of 'buttons' that i can choose to press. that's quite a lot

my biggest issue with the podcasts app is just getting back to the podcast show page so i can choose the next program. I can't seem to do it on your app either.

from the main play screen (which as fasr as i can see is only accessibly by pressing a tiny up arrow at the lower left of the screen) I then press the big picture - it takes me to the episode. then i click the show banner and it takes me to the list not bad. But then how do i get back to the main show player? If i click the show (that's playing) it does this weird extra row of buttins (play X tick star and inbox) ..

do i need to click the tiny right arrow icon. OK this takes me to the episode details. I tried to click 'play' again at the bottom but it linked me to a sponser link since there appears to be a hyperlink in the descriptino text under the play button. I don't know how to get back to the main playback page that shows the picture and gives me the big controls. I've spent a few mins on this so far going in circles. Presed Tick a few times, i still don't know what it does.

Nope. I can't find out how to get to the main page. Also its difficult to tell if a podcast is actually playing or not. (i have sound turned down as I do all this)

I will maybe check it out a bit more but It seems very fiddly and twitchy.

IMO podcast app needs a couple of things :

1. constant playback/progress bar. If a podcast is playing, at all times I should have a progress bar, with skip, back, pause controls.

2. I should be able to one press back to the main play screen 3. one press backto the podcast show page (with the list of eps) 4. one press back to the podcast list page (with list of podcasts)

I do like what looks like nice speed adjuster, sleep, and audio enhancers . not tried yet.

hah i feel a bit thick as I still can't work out how to get back to a screen n that shows the currently playing podcast with a progress bar. lol.

a decent long form article with pictures, a story, well written, and something of interest. I will read this fully later as it will require some time. Good work!

My experience of docker is running docker-compose, which uses docker desktop on Windows . I can use apple containers instead of docker to achieve the same thing? it's sounds like it.

Yeah. I don't quite understand this. Can I use this instead of docker desktop, to run docker containers on my mac 'natively' ? Or this is completely separate from docker ?

Is there any way to stop /prevent it enumerating tif files over the network ?

When i open a directory of 400 30MB tif files it grinds to a halt while it thumbnails them all over the network. Its unusable.

One thing worth knowing is in the mac file dialogs you can drop a file from finder into these and it will change directory to where that file is.

The other thing is in most apps in the title bar there is an icon. Drag that to finder and it saves the file. Kinda Risc os style.

does this index the disk to do this ? So the filemanager is working with an index rather than the files ? It could be stale ?

I haven't found a good file manager for mac since 15 years now. They all just about do the things I need but not good enough. I've never really done the dual pane thing, my favourite gui for file management was Windows XP. Every iteration of explorer since has gotten objectively worse.

On mac I don't even bother trying to filemanage. I remote in to a windows machine.

I need to be able to get paths and paste paths.

for my downloads I just sort by type in list view and delete whatever by type. just do that a few times a year no big deal. I don't understand why we can't have an AI that sorts out the files they half baked 'stacks' onto the desktop, but all that happens is i now have dozens and dozens of stacks which contain dozens and dozens of files.

i still don't know what castro is, and I'm not interested to look it up. something to do with podcasts, is all I've gleaned from the comments.
