This, 200 times. No weekly news does not mean dead. In some specific places like this one, it means stable.
(And also arguably, for good or bad reasons, why it will never become mainstream).
I never imagined my blogs to be useful to anyone. For me, they're mostly just things I felt like sharing but with no particular audience in mind.
Over the years though, I find myself receiving email from people who I helped. I even googled quite a few things in the past years only to find the first answer to be a blog of mine. So I unblocked myself a few times.
Blogging is fun. What's obvious for you isn't for everyone.
Just wanna say it's always fun and nostalgic to see authors pass by here who I was reading back when I started my career. I was reading Vicki's blogs way back, even remember learning some email parsing in python from her over 10 years ago. TY!
We're talking about a deep human experience here. I don't know about HN as a whole but I personally come out of this much more touched about the human side of the story and how someone's life events can tremendously change their paths and goals than the LLM itself.
Honestly I think we're on our way back to good old networking. Realized that myself after trying to hire and receiving hundreds of automated applications in minutes, all seemingly tailored with a cover letter.
Moved house earlier this year, from an apartment in a not so safe area to a house in a family area with no cars and more green.
The kiddos have been out so much more, and it's awesome to see how they find phones / screens less interesting when they can just go and play outside.
Hum, I already have a phone with Slack / Email on. And it's only switched on during work hours. No messaging outside of that window. Why would that be different?
Ploum is one of the people getting me into blogging 12 or so years ago. I'm so glad to see it popup again here, it's like a big piece of nostalgia. And the piece is current. Thanks Ploum!
Those acquisition numbers will just keep becoming larger and larger until one day, when I'm old enough, someone will just acquire the only other player left in the field and Earth will be one single megacorporation.
