We are building a container/machine hosting provider for the East African market at KwaWingu.com. We have a core group of dedicated users at the moment who we are growing with, and eventually we aim to support e.g. M-PESA payments given the high adoption of mobile money in the region.

If you want to omit the registry stage, with KwaWingu.com you can deploy a GitHub repo directly to a container, with full control over the Dockerfile. The container lives behind an SSL-terminated ALB to which you can associate a domain name if you're running a public web service. Auto-scaling not yet supported but coming in the future.

If you end up taking a gap semester, I highly recommend spending time in Dar es Salaam. It's a great city, tons of people everywhere, lots to see and do. The population explosion[0] and median age of ~19 (compared to ~39 in the US) gives it a vibrancy and dynamism that is hard to find in the West.

There would be challenging moments during your stay of course, but if you play your cards right and talk with the right people, you'll get a sense of what's in play there and how you might be able to contribute should you choose to return to the region.

KwaWingu.com | Senior {JS,Java} Developer | REMOTE (any timezone) | Part-time | https://kwawingu.com

KwaWingu is a nascent cloud-computing provider and PaaS in East Africa. Currently a few people are using KwaWingu to develop static sites for their own customers. KwaWingu hosts git repositories for these users; users can deploy their changes automatically to third-party buckets/CDNs via the KwaWingu site. Users can also create invoices to request credit card or wire transfer payments from those for whom they are developing.

The frontend is in React, the backend in Java (Spring Boot, GraphQL) and PostgreSQL. I am looking for someone to develop the area of the application which allows users to spin up dedicated servers and databases. This will involve developing both new front-end React components and new back-end Java/GraphQL services.

If you are interested, please send a résumé to [email protected]. If interest is mutual, I will reply with a more detailed breakdown of the features I am looking to have developed, broken out by milestone. Compensation will be milestone-based; you'll propose the amount in {USD,BTC} you want to be paid for each milestone, along with an estimated time to deliver, and I will reply with a proposal to discuss further in real-time if everything lines up.
