I don't think it's very likely that the emergency meeting in the Norwegian government yesterday was called because of the security situation in Denmark 3 months ago. Not unlikely that it is related to US-Europe/NATO relations ofc (although there are plenty of other things that would cause an emergency meeting as well, king has been hospitalized plenty of times lately, wife of the next in line is deep in drama due to both being revealed to have been close with Epstein and having a son that is currently in court for some pretty serious allegations, and sharing a border Russia that is currently waging hybrid warfare across europe)

Just for some additional context, these meetings are held every week, but this caused headlines because there was held an additional one outside of the normal schedule due to some classified time sensitive case, i.e. not something that happened in another country many months ago.

not sure how OP is acting with bigotry against windows users just because they were surprised that there are people who are enthusiastic about windows.

I share their sentiment, it's like discovering that there is a group of people who are Internet Explorer fans, or avid listeners of the generic no-name pop songs specifically made to be unremarkable background music they play in my gym to avoid paying royalties. It's just surprising since I haven't met anyone who doesn't just treat it as something to either put up with or replace with alternatives before.

Depending on where you live, if you're the type of person who spend most of the day away from home, having some understanding of the weather to expect throughout the day is very useful for not experiencing the weather too much.

Very useful to know if it's likely to rain or be windy, and the highs and lows. I might be leaving at noon when it's comfortable and warm outside, but I might be coming home needing a thick jacket and an umbrella. If I'm already outside experiencing the sudden rainstorm and my umbrella is at home, it doesn't really matter that it wasn't raining when I left home many hours ago.

the uhk looks fairly close to what I've been looking for, just wish it had ortholinear keys.

how's the build quality? I got a split keyboard a while ago from a small producer, and the case was completely built out of 3d printed plastic which caused it to be pretty flimsy and kept sliding around due to the light weight.

I've heard this argument a lot, but is the bus driver really more than a rounding error on the balance sheet of the transportation company? I have no experience in this field, but I would imagine the infrastructure for buying and maintaining a fleet of busses, creating a route network, dealing with ticketing, dealing with disruptions, etc, etc, makes up most of the costs around running a public transport company?

interesting, maybe "AWS is down" will become the new "the server is down" that some non-tech people throw around when anything unexpected happen on their computer?

I'm having the same question about sewing. I feel like the lead time to first stitch is quite high, but I think I could make quite significant progress on my projects if I could use the all small 15-minute breaks to make some progress.

kind of feeling like this too much skeuomorphism for my taste, why recreate the office experience when I can already do the work without the commute over slack and teams?

just keep in mind that not all kinds of HPV vaccines protect against all the strains causing warts! Some do, but not all, check the specific brand you're getting! Obviously cancer is worse, but the extra protection is nice to have.

> People often think that if you don't respond to an argument in two seconds you "lose"...

This one is especially annoying! A lot of people seem to get away with extremely poorly thought out arguments, relying entirely on logical fallacies, or using factually incorrect information, just because they are able packaging it as a fast comeback. On the other hand, people seem to treat not being able to remember details about something or taking a little time to think before replying as meaning that the underlying facts are incorrect. Surely the underlying facts does not depend on the debaters ability to remember them on the spot, but it seems like a lot of people treat it that way.

I don't feel like it is unreasonable to put a different set of ethical standards to an animal out in the wild and a human.

Not to say there's nothing wrong with modern construction, but keep in mind that most roman buildings also only lasted a few decades. You only see that ones that didn't disappear.

Also, do we really want to build houses that are meant to last 2000 years? It seems expensive and very impractical when you want to tear it down to build something new.

I find it unlikely that any functioning adult in western society does not understand that would be incredibly offensive.

I've also noticed that when asking difficult questions, the real solution is somewhere in the pages of "reasoning", but not in the actual answer

not necessarily saying it's a good system, but I remember working with someone who had previously tried making it pro in a sport who was really frustrated with a lot of doping at the low levels. In order to advance upwards, it was necessary to do well in the lower levels, but due to the lax testing he was competing against other athletes with an unfair advantage.

I feel that if teenagers are able to trivially bypass illegal-word filters by substituting with words that obviously mean the same thing, I think an AGI wouldn't be too inhibited by this either

ah yes, and the auto translation on reddit broke a very useful trick I used all the time

- need information about something in general -> search in English - need information about something specific for my home country (laws, local events, local shops, etc) -> search in my native language

now, I get weird auto translated content informing me about laws that are only applicable in the US and recommended products that are not even available in my home country.

> “The amount has been multiplied by 100, instead of being divided by 100.”

I'm very interested to know if there is any coverage of automated tests at all for this system? This seems like the kind of mistake that would be picked up immediately with a bare minimum test suite.

I experienced mentioning an issue I was stuck on during standup one day, then some guy on my team DMs me a screenshot of chatGPT with text about how to solve the issue. When I explained to him why the solution he had sent me didn't make sense and wouldn't solve the issue, he sent me back the reply the LLM would give by pasting in my reply, at which point I stopped responding.

I'm just really confused what people who send LLM content to other people think they are achieving? Like if I wanted an LLM response, I would just prompt the LLM myself, instead of doing it indirectly though another person who copy/pastes back and forth.

This has been a known strategy from Uber for a long time. Run at a loss to squeeze out the existing offerings, then dramatically increase prices once they've established a monopoly.

Combine this with exploiting loopholes to get around local labour regulation or just outright ignoring it just because, giving them an unfair advantage over competitors that were operating more or less honestly.

I wish I could say I was surprised they got away with it just because they were doing it through an app
