Libby and similar services are designed to bleed libraries dry. Libraries are prohibited from buying a normal / retail eBook license, and have to buy a special library license. These licenses are more expensive and expire after they are checked out a few times.
I'll check out a physical book from the library, grab an epub, and delete it when I return the book.
To clarify: so much of the show's runtime feels like filler. Every episode has 1-2 scenes of characters arguing which are completely inconsequential to the plot. Every once in a while a character will suggest an interesting idea for how the time travel technology could be used in a novel way. But every time characters have a conversation with any depth, the show runners feel the need to cut away to an inconsequential fight scene so a hypothetical viewer won't be bored.
I loved the book and struggled watching the show. You could tell which scenes were written by William Gibson, and which ones were written by the Westworld people. Around episode 3 or 4 the plot completely diverges from the book, and almost all of it is generic 'prestige TV' type writing. I would have dropped the show around episode 4 or 5 if it I didn't love the book. Can't really recommend it to anyone.
I understand the feeling but I'm not sure Microsoft would actually fix anything. Microsoft hasn't fixed any of the problems that Bethesda had pre-acquisition. Nothing has improved for employees; the only difference is that their games aren't released on Sony platforms anymore.
Two years ago, during the Blitzchung / Hong Kong incident, I deleted the Battle.net account I had held since Warcraft III. I would encourage everyone else to do so too. It's definitely easier now that Blizzard no longer makes the best (or even good) games in any genre.
It's possible to imagine LLMs implemented responsibly, but our ruling class has decided against that.
