importance of thinking through whether to have your company organized functionally or around business can't be overstated. Functional orientation makes lack of accountability and can lead to bureaucratic culture and Business orientation can lead to silos and coordination failure.
Importance of data for machine learning algorithms can’t be stressed enough. I remember talking to a friend in Google Translate team. they had a good also but they were struggling to get quality translation data to train their service. the problem was more severe when it came to language which was not very popular. translation set was next to nothing for Say something like Turkish, Hindi, Latvian etc.
They finally solved this by using meeting notes from UN Assembly. Which were transcribed by best of the translators? that access to meeting transcription was (unfair ??) advantage Google had over other tools. Was it wrong ? I don’t think so. Should have been those meeting notes be public: Yes
Nice idea . I think you should make it more generic. I am confident that We will see a lot of this "Twitch of X " in years to come. I personally would like to see Twitch of Cooking and Twitch of Uber Rides
One aspect of Universal Basic Income (UBI) debate which remain unanswered for me is the question of meaning & purpose.
Most of us derive our sense of purpose from our jobs. In a future with UBI and Automation where will derive our purpose in life. I think this will dictate the future of UBI more than the intrinsic merit of the underlying idea.
Good to be talking to you. Thanks for intresting post. I am wondering if you have studied "juggad" philosophy in india. We practice bricoleurs in every sphere of life.
In India we call bricoleurs as "juggad" and people have overused this idea and made it excuse for not thinking through. Championing this idea is a slippery slope
From the article
"Our study was a first foray into imaging the brains of professionally trained Sanskrit pandits in India. Although this initial research, focused on intergroup comparison of brain structure, could not directly address the Sanskrit effect question (that requires detailed functional studies with cross-language memorization comparisons, for which we are currently seeking funding),"
Is it just me who thinks that this disclaimer negate whole point of research ?
"In my experience, the 10x programmer is a bit of a myth. "
I think it depends on Industry / Role. A creative person in Advertisment or a good chip design engineer or someone great with Algorithm are often worthy of 10 or 20X compensation. Whats wrong is that many people think 10X guys can exist on Application layer / Front end. I think its very hard to do that
