So normally companies interview and judge your level based on how you perform in the interview. It is good to be upfront about this if you think you should be senior and they put you as non senior, ask why they put you as non senior.
You seem to be defining your self-worth as your performance at work. At work you are simply a replaceable employee, whether you do well or not is defined by a bunch of managers and higher ups at your job. Why are you letting them define your self-worth? I'm pretty sure you are worth way more than that. Define your self-worth yourself don't let others decide, there is more to life than work.
At this point it's the parents decision if its allowed or not. With no parental controls or ability to block will soon be super inappropriate for kids, the risk is too great. I'd stay clear of anything that doesn't have these controls, I'm pretty sure kids can live without this app.
Either you have too high expectations of yourself or you are not grasping the problem/syllabus . It could also be adhd, at this point not enough information. Taking initiative normally happens by itself, it's like your natural ability to prove you understand the issue and express the solution / work just happens.
Do you struggle with everything, even non course related stuff, did you struggle with this in school (different subjects)
The main thing here is practice makes perfect. Try doing a bunch of leetcode problems and see how you fare. Most of us flop it first time then keep practicing.
Although I feel like you seem to have a low opinion of yourself, try asking others on what they think how you did in your course and your result will speak for itself.
Becoming a good engineer is a career long achievement I wouldn't expect you to achieve this milestone until you've completed a few professional years.
Also what do you enjoy? Is engineering something you legitly enjoy?
I think majority are highly competent, many of them have achieved great feats before or after joining. There is no shortage of successful start ups / companies that are run by ex-googlers and ex-Facebook employees.
One approach is to try to limit their time to avoid obsession. As with many things, in moderation you see the best benefits. The kid is not going to like it at first but will learn discipline to be able to enjoy other stuff besides Minecraft.
When a device is powered off it shouldn't be relaying info unless there is another device fitted that can do that. I'd check for any fittings on the device that is extraordinary.
For pagerduty normally you have to give location permissions. If you remove those they can't track you if it even asks for it in first place. Hope this helps.
Ive experienced this a few times over my career. Everyone has different reasons but try to find the root reason, is it because the work is not challenging enough? Maybe Project is something you've done many times before or maybe you are simply burnt out. Maybe it's time to try something new?
There are always new things to learn and you've shown that over the years. Once you have the reason you can try to address. It might not be clear, the reason and everything might feel like a drag but try to narrow it down, sharing with a friend/relative/mentor helps.
I'm very sorry for what happened, hopefully it does not happen again. From your response I gathered a few things, that contributing to open source seems to be taking a toll on. You may want to look at monitizing (github sponsor) or taking a break (or simply slowing down) from open source.
The actions of "jerks" are a self reflection of them. They are trying to get attention, play racist music, draw immature content, get a laugh out of this (which will get boring after x times) . You can probably guess how they are as people in real life, none of the above are positive triats to have. Don't let these jerks get to you rather, use this to strengthen yourself that you are doing something much more constructive and positive with your time.
I feel like you are being a bit too hard on yourself. What do you enjoy about solving problems? doesn't matter how minor.
You mentioned you don't even solve half the problems meaning that you manage to solve the other half. What is the difference between the ones you solved and the ones you didn't?
I think you need to focus on your strengths and your personal interests. Many startups etc are people trying to fix things they lack in their lives or they can do better.
Be hungry to learn, be passionate, communicate well but do not hesitate to ask questions. Give it your best shot and don't leave behind any regrets. Don't let any failures let you down, they are part of the process of learning.
This should not be taken lightly, your life is effected by this since you mentioned you cannot sleep at night, nor exercise not drive. As the company advances your duties will increase and personal time gone.
Best thing would be to raise this with your manager, if no real action is taken then leaving or changing team is an option.
Being oncall and paid for it is much better. Here your personal time being lost with no compensation is simply not worth it. In fact if you don't respond in time it may reflect badly on you.
There is an approach that can be taken to focus sprints on only improving oncall but it requires management buy in. How bad is it? Is it something out of your teams control or is it something if you spend an hour over you can fix for good?
It's to open up dialogue about performance in general. Your goal is to get the objectives met. If they meet some of them and then was it their lack of technical understanding not up to expectations? Was it communication that was lacking? Or does the person not like their job?
Know the answers can help to either improve their skills or simply replace them.
One way is to set realistic objectives that they have to achieve by a deadline. If they haven't met them you can have a performance review with them. If they constantly are meeting them then they are not slacking. If they are missing them then you have a strong case to fire them.
It is also helpful to get their feedback on why they seem to be not interested in work. Maybe it does not interest them.
