Non-fossil fuels make up 50% of India's installed power capacity. This year's peak power demand was 270GW, out of which 34% was supplied by renewables. The percentage of renewables in India's energy mix is going up every year, and there is no aversion to nuclear. Still, thermal power plants using coal remain a significant source of energy, and new coal plants are being planned and built. So India does care about emissions, but it also cares about energy security.

Reminds me of that sci-fi short film where kids are playing a VR game controlling virtual avatars looking for and shooting virtual enemies, while in the real world, unbeknownst to them, they are actually piloting robots that are hunting down and killing dissidents.

They do have the power to change things. Institutions can be made more accountable. The people just chose the option to continue with the status quo.

The system doesn't exist independent of the people. If those who are harmed do not punish the offenders, the offenders will see no reason to change their behaviour.

Damn. I hope he/she remains safe. India's administration is stupid and extremely vindictive.

India's education sector is a real shit-show. The rot starts at the bottom: students that resort to cheating, the endless question paper leaks of national level examinations, and curricula that are stuck in the past. All these lead to the problem that affects the country's economic and social development: a lack of foundational research in frontier science and technology, where the country is always a follower and never a leader.

Maybe these things are to be expected, given that even the Prime Minister's academic credentials are suspected to be bogus.

I don't think one has to wait for someone to start a movement. I pick up plastic bottles whenever I see them and drop them in the nearest trash bin that is meant for plastic bottles. I am in Kerala though, which is comparatively cleaner than the rest of India(except the north-eastern states).

The Kerala government is pushing for better waste management now with more trash bins placed at public places and a state-wide effort to segregate waste at the source and collect it from homes.

Still people litter with abandon and it's hard to change ingrained habits.

Yeah. If anything, Modi/Shah would probably burn those co-operatives to the ground if they could. Tamil Nadu hates the BJP.

You can buy an angle guide like the one below to keep the angle consistent while sharpening.

I think I was a bit hasty in expressing disbelief about your experience. Your team asked you not to set up a development centre in Kerala probably because it was not really known for being industry-friendly at the time. Apologies.

I have a hard time believing that your team who were mostly from Kerala asked you not to set up a development centre there, as IT is pretty immune to militant trade unionism. A lot of companies have development centres in Trivandrum, some were set up more than twenty years ago.

I don't disagree that Kerala was known for being rather unfriendly to big industries, but things are changing. The Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry ranked Kerala at the top in 2024 for "Ease of Doing Business Reforms".

As for the clothes manufacturer, I believe you are talking about Kitex. They didn't go anywhere and their factories are still there in Kerala. They did set up a new factory recently in Telengana though, which, along with the rest of the company, is going through a rough phase now because of Trump's tariffs.

Kerala has alternated between a left-wing coalition(the Left Democratic Front - LDF) and a centrist to centre-right coalition(the United Democratic Front - UDF) for a long time. The current major communist party in Kerala, though ideologically Marxist-Leninist, is practically a social democratic one in its policies and actions.

Some CRTs had a button to degauss the display, to remove the distortion on the screen. You could also purchase a tool that could be used to degauss a CRT.

I think it may be a good idea to either enable auto-save or remind the user that there are unsaved changes before navigating away from the page.

Till the 1700s India was the largest economy in the world, with China being a close second, based on the chart below, which in turn cites British economist Angus Maddison as the source.

So why wouldn't India be able to reproduce China's success? Maybe not in the next 20-30 years, but it sure isn't a foregone conclusion that India will always remain poor.
