"...building a net worth of more than $2 billion..." - congrats Drew and team! For all the critics, from day 1, the founders are billionaires / early employees at least in the 10s if not 100s of millions -- and so much value created for people syncing files around the world -- while hackers are still saying "...but rsync"

Yes, the story was something like Google hadn’t rebuilt their index for something like 8 months if I recall correctly

Does anyone else remember the Mac app “gravitation” that did this? Brings back memories

Check out https://mynucleus.com -- we do whole-genome DNA sequencing from a cheek swab for about $500 (use code savraj10 for 10% off), so no blood drawn as in this example. We also give you your risks for over 2k diseases and, if your partner does the test, predict outcomes for your future kids. Alexis is one of our investors and we have a big announcement coming next week! We also allow download of all raw data and are SOC2 + HIPAA compliant.

No pm2.5?

Another way to think of this is: no one gets promoted for keeping things the same or making small optimizations. PM’s/designers get rewarded for sweeping changes, which is why UI for a given product often gets worse instead of better. The first version was the usable bare-bones MVP, then things bloat as ppl stuff in features, then it all gets swept away in a “refresh” which often buries the most useful stuff that was simple and boring for the PMs — but they forget about new users seeing it all for the first time.

It would be awesome if tesla let us truly customize the UI with some CSS, or at least accept a few themes that they bless. I want to have my energy usage always visible somewhere on screen, for example, without completely blocking the map…

You’re right. Also your example of “employee growth”might shock most people — setting a goal to leave the office at 4:30p early would simply raise eyebrows at most companies.

Congrats Alex Chung! Met him a couple times in NYC and he was gracious and kind. I remember him mentioning that Giphy is the largest search engine behind google or so, which makes sense as everyone's searching for cool gifs in chat whenever they can. :)

Personal Capital is great -- it's free, way better than mint, and you don't have to do the investment stuff if you don't want to. I really like it. Get $50 at my referral link, too. :) https://share.personalcapital.com/x/xtw34J

FWIW I successfully did some work on a United 787 in cattle class (economy) with my 15" macbook pro in a middle seat. It was tight, but it helped that the guy in the window seat fell asleep leaning to the wall... But yeah, I might resurrect my old trusty 2011 macbook air for situations like this...

It's a fair point. If the camera were better, no one would be saying, "It's a great laptop, but the front facing camera, at 1080p, is excessive. I can't believe they did that." So I'm not sure why there are all these people trying to justify a low-res camera in these comments. :)

Getting paid a lot of money to build something that never gets users is draining and not fun. There are tons and tons of people — super naive entrepreneurs — that are willing to pay a lot of money to build the complex castle in the clouds they imagine, and are then surprised when no one switches over to use it. I’ve literally heard people say “no we can’t build an mvp, it only works if everything is there.”
