I have had VASTLY better free health coverage (OHP, Portland OR via Providence) than the current Kaiser dreck I and employer pay significant sums for.

Healthcare is not a flex, and it my experiences on the west coast, it's an inverse correlation to wealth. :/

I share your take, but I think from the other side of the coin -- I am frequently finding interesting topics [flagged] by the time I click through, and it's mildly infuriating.

I feel like I have mourned the death of MSPub at least once before.

I've noticed myself and several colleagues have all taken to making little SaaS's for sport -- I'm not sure WHY we've all done that, but it's totally a thing.

Maybe if there was a monthly "Show us your (project/vibe/slop)" thread, it would provide a centralized spot for it all, then you could ignore it, once, at leisure, instead of the filters working overtime. :)

I am fully expecting the rollout of a Max 350 plan after July 7.

Iunno, I feel like being born in a first world country did most of that "top 0.1% of the world" work. That sentence works the same with and without AI/LLMs.

Among peers, I feel like I am top 20%? 30%? maybe, by being a good programmer who is adept at agents. A year ago was the 0.1% point, this stuff is spreading like wildfire. A year from now I think it's going to just be de rigeur that these are our tools now.

Worse, any edge I have from working with this stuff for years is quickly dulled. The tools are evolving fast. My tricks from 3 months ago have been eclipsed.

I can't use my Claude Code or GPT subscriptions for API access.

I don't want monthly subs to infrequently used models that I sometimes tap into.

...pretty much that's it. My 10 bucks at OpenRouter has lasted me several months for these edge cases.

There are more responses to "hard to schedule, hard to afford" than "defer everything possible"

You can fly something smaller and more inline with your budget

You can share the plane with partners

You can get a motorcycle or boat instead.

...I do not disagree that your presented "option 3" is a common one. That hurts me as both an instructor and a mechanic.

You'll want the McSpadden report (formerly the Nall report) here [1]

Pay attention to the accidents per 100,000 hours in commercial vs non-commercial fixed wing. Commercial is about 10-40x safer.

A "bad error" in a minivan does this too. The "bad error" in the plane would be flying into a thunderstorm. I equate this gobsmackingly bad judgement with driving a minivan off of a cliff.

I'm enjoying forgejo as a self-hosted repo. No complaints, and the actions I was using on GH transferred over cleanly. I understand it's not quite fully compatible though, but worth an exploratory smoke test.

I hate the name though and resist saying it aloud. But that's been true of a few of my tools over the years :)

"The architectural design has been called "dull,"[4] and the entire concept of the complex is frequently referred to as "dystopian."[4][7][11] Residing in a "self-sufficient living environment" can negatively affect an individual's mental health. In addition, the tightly-packed apartments can cause claustrophobia. The various amenities are restricted by the floor the residents live on, and different floors have different rent prices, which can result in socioeconomic differences between residents."

Yeahhhhhh I'll be first in line for the "does not have the will for this" queue. Yuck.

I enjoyed this, in all of its silly big banana energy.

I have an overdeveloped anti-authority streak, and I did not like to read that he was pulled over so often, but... I mean... that surely isn't a surprise, right? It's almost like reverse entrapment of the officers :)

It's sort of the whole tension when you query vectorized data/embeddings -- you need to balance accuracy and recall against the performance you need.

It took me a while to wrap my head around the two terms since they seem similar -- but Accuracy is basically "did i get mostly good results" and Recall is "did I get most of the good results" and they're subtly different. :)

Those two terms, though, will unlock as deep a rabbit-hole as you'd like on the subject.

I waltzed into a tech screen thinking I could handcode python after having LLM be primary at it for over a year. Yeah, there's atrophy -- I humiliated myself and took the lesson. :)

There is a meta-argument about whether companies should interview about hand-coding anymore, but... the skills do atrophy. I've been mixing hand-coding into my routines ever since to try to keep those skills lukewarm. I'm not yet sure if I am wasting my time doing so or not.

Strange and wonderful how different our experiences are with these tools.

I will get gentle, respectful pushback on certain points when I am on the wrong track. I am 10x grateful to have a collaborator/pair programmer unafraid to challenge me and bring receipts in those instances.

I don't get attitude from Claude. I sometimes give it, but that's my own failing. Once in a great while I'll get a wry turn of phrase that makes me laugh, and those are endearing also.
