So basically, unless you've experienced every bad thing that a particular person of colour has experienced, you have white privilege. Got it.
Racists come in all colours - I grew up in Africa and was a minority as a white person and experienced racism regularly. There are plenty of racist phrases I was called, and I was bullied for being white.
I worked in China and experienced racism every single day - my favourite being when I was stood in torrential rain for over an hour trying to flag a taxi and no-one would collect me, whilst native Chinese would stand for a few minutes and get a cab. The only way I could get one in the end was to wave money in the air and pay 10x the usual amount.
I worked in Tanzania where I was harassed by police most of the time I went out for a drive - at police checkpoints I would get threatened with arrest unless I paid a bribe (I was targeted because I was white - locals would get waved past). It reached the point where I had two wallets - one purely as a decoy with small notes so the police would only steal a smaller amount.
People my family knows have been murdered for being white.
And yet I will get judged by the colour of my skin and be told I have white privilege. Seems a bit racist..
Billing and the associated subscription models is a problem that has been largely solved, so there isn't much need to roll your own. Instead you can dive straight into the 'fun' parts of your project.
I used Laravel Spark + Stripe for my SaaS and it works great.
However.. The downside is that if major changes happen (e.g. The new SCA regulations) you could find the core modules used in a package such as the Laravel billing package need to be upgraded, so you have a domino effect where everything needs to be upgraded. We were left with a LOT of work as we had to upgrade Laravel core to a new version, which meant upgrading from Bootstrap 3 to 4 (a huge job).
I wouldn't change our initial approach as it allowed us to quickly get a product to market and see whether it was viable, but the reality is that we will be rebuilding the entire system from scratch in the future to get rid of the legacy inefficiencies.
I got caught up in the hype of Bitcoin and thought it would change the world, but the reality is that it doesn't really 'do' anything. All the apps that I've seen on the blockchain are pointless, or more efficiently built using non-blockchain stacks.
I was interested in a coin called MedicalChain which promised to store your medical records in the blockchain, but it seems to be vaporware (lost a little bit on that one!).
When Libra came along I thought that it would be 'the one'. Finally, a blockchain that could reach the mass market and actually be usable. Just a shame it's Facebook...
To me a PC is an obvious choice - you can build your own based on your requirements and do it at a fraction of the cost of a laptop.
Having said that, my Linux Mint tower is now gathering dust as I had to make the switch to a Macbook due to the lack of decent design apps. The only reason I went with a laptop in this instance is due to the outrageous prices for Mac towers!
