This is what my parents have taught me to do as well.
It's also a possibility though that the beggar wanted to be efficient and accumulate more money for other fares throughout the day, just trying to be efficient.
The story/problem:
While hunting for a decent used car using the usual methods: craigslist, ebay, etc. I was on the freeway when a car drove by me with a For Sale sign in the window. The make and model were what I was looking for, but how would I ever be able to find out more (mileage, condition, etc) and contact this person? We’d both have to be parked to safely get all that info from the For Sale sign. Or try some good old fashioned tail-gaiting.. but didn’t want to risk denting my future car! A similar situation happened when I was apartment hunting and seeing For Rent signs in home windows as I drove around. What if the world ran on short-tags, what if I could spot a huge printed #2N, know to go to a website, and look it up for more info?
The solution:
We came up with TerseTag as the solution, allowing people to say everything they want with a QR code and short tag.
Is it just another QR code creator? Sure, you could say that. Is it just another URL shortener? Sure, you could say that too.
We love how QR codes provide a way to get from the real world to digital content, but studies show using QR codes is a mixed bag. Some people never bother learning how to scan them, possibly because it can be technologically intimidating and unfamiliar. To address this,That is why TerseTag offers short, memorable tags that people can quickly write down and lookup later, tapping into a simple and familiar act that we all have done by writing down someone’s phone number or email address.
Please check it out and let us know what you think, thanks!

I was surprised at first too, but after all this hassle it seems like one company with a domain name trademarked prevents others from buying domains that sound, are spelled, or are somewhat similar selling relatively similar products or services, so now I'm not so surprised.
I agree, dilution are an even bigger can of worms...
Thanks for the Swahili tip, I will definitely check that out.
Wow 4-6 months, that puts things into perspective...we go through the same steps except for the logo design trademark search. Currently we're two devs, looking for a designer and business/marketer. Until then, I wear those hats as well, and we always figured once we get a decent designer on board, we'd have a logo worth pursuing a design trademark for.
Originally I thought Amazon Payments was attractive because many people (this could be an over assumption on my part) already purchase items on Amazon and have their credit cards stored with their account. This way, they wouldn't have to take our their credit cards and enter the information again.
That and the trust that Amazon invokes, as opposed to a new startup in which I have no idea how they're processing my credit card.
Very cool. While I'm perfectly capable of setting up my own server and database, this seems like a great way to develop a few app ideas and outsource the backend until it proves to be a successful app.
Nice strategy. While I'm sure office politics plague many companies, I think some just aren't able to dig deep into each project and group to find out who deserves recognition. It's often important in larger companies to create visibility for the instances you do a great job, and this can often be construed as office politics.
Dropbox has shown the huge need people have for their services. Why wouldn't the big guys (Apple, Google, MS) be compelled to now get in the game and make the investment in treating platforms other than their own as first-class citizens?
I've incorporated Bootstrap 1.4 to use its styling (fonts, buttons, etc) but I'd like to get into the responsive features of 2.0. How exactly does the grid layout work, how should I layout my content? Which columns should I use and how would they adapt to changes in device max width? Thanks in advance!
