I think property taxes in US already vary a lot from state to state. It certainly vary also from country to country. It's something you need to be aware to take a decision on whether it's a good investment or not.
Ultimately, all these costs are also embedded into renting price.
Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft, IBM, HP and many others would certainly not agree with you. They cook their own food, own lot of real estate and I am pretty sure they don't think it's time they lost.
These big companies do not manage one single house (office). They manage a real estate portfolio. Most of big companies have a mix of rented and acquired office space. Ultimately, owning real estate or not is an investment decision.
Some big companies, like HP recently, went from owning most of its real estate to sell large chunk of it ... Reason is to get some cash flow and to rationalise some expenses. But not because someone else could manage better their real estate.
negative ROI on investment is the risk component of your investment. This is true of any investment. Stock being certainly higher risks than housing and still people invest a lot in stocks.
But I should have said renting is a sunk cost. There is no investment component at all in renting.
You still need to rent something for you and your family. It's almost a fixed cost in your life. In any case, it's better to turn that fixed cost into an investment.
It's hard to believe you'll ever get your equation right. Even more when you weight investment risks and actual average ROI over 25-30 years in stocks.

I'm from Belgium, one of the highest house owners countries. Even though it's true it's a life-long debt and it might be risky (in case of crisis), housing is still considered as a Long Term Investment so that you can pass that investment to your children (after heavy tax deduction :)). I find interesting the article does not mention who actually owns all these houses and who benefits in the long term. After all, renting has a guaranteed zero ROI.
Also, recently, I've been looking at housing market in Munich and it's very very expensive. Renting is ~20% more expensive than in Brussels and acquisition is +100% more expensive. So, although I admit I do not know rest of Germany housing market, I have some troubles thinking why Munich would be more expensive than Brussels. And I certainly miss, from that perspective, why German system would be more interesting.
It provides open interfaces to interact with the switch through several means like OVSDB, REST API ... or CLI. OpenFlow is not supported yet although will be in near future.
Since it's open source, it also gives you the opportunity to run other agents in the switch control plane ... which is hardly possible with IOS or JunOS.
This is a very competitive and huge market. Lot of companies running to obtain the next disruptive tehcnology/product. No one is really ahead of the others for now. So I guess it will be difficult to have any good tech reports without any marketing touch in it :)
Memristor do no computation at all. It follows the same idea as the described RRAM. High density, low cost, persistent, low power consumption, high write/read throughput, low latency. To the exception that it could even replace RAM, not only nand devices. I don't remember of the top of my head reading performance but it was clearly closer to RAM levels.

mv is relying on operation "similar" to rename() defined by POSIX which specifies that it should be atomic.
So, the assumption "On Unix, mv is atomic operation" is not true. If your underlying FS is fully POSIX-compliant, mv will be an atomic operation.
I think it's important to stress it because there are some distributed FS that might even try to be POSIX-compliant but which are not guaranteeing atomic rename's and therefore this trick would not work well.
