One think that I would like to see solved by indie search engines is the ability to break the search bubble and see whats usually hidden on 10th page of google search results. This is a serious problem in all big search engines.
One interesting way to solve search bubble problem is to have an option to filter out results from high traffic websites and blogs who invest heavily in CEO and pollute search results.
Having this filter will surely open a completely different world of information that's very hard to search.
I am really happy that people who always wanted to work remotely outside of crowded and overly expensive cities now have an opportunity to do that.
I also remember seeing in news some states mandating quarantine for people moving b/w states. I wonder if that is intended to deter people from making such move out of cities which can lead to the collapse of the cities businesses.
I too stay away from mainstream reporting that's always filled with propaganda. Are there any alternative source of genuine news? So far I haven't found any.
from what I understand, arbitration is a way to come up with a resolution if possible before taking case to court. If arbitrator decision doesn't seem just to employee then why don't they appeal for court? Who own the cost of court proceedings in such scenario, company or employee? But given the exorbitant legal fees its not is favor of employee to take this route.
Lobbying itself is not culprit as it has been present since the beginning of society. Only thing that make it heinous now is the change in mindset of people(more greedy).
Its the responsibility of people to support virtuous corporations(choosing product they use) just like they vote their politicians to power.
Post retirement, same congressman get hired as an executive for the company or congressman starts an startup which is brought by the lobbyist company or ...
There are far more complex ways for congressmen to receive benefits for accepting lobbyist agenda.
Any action by congressman that doesn't make sense to common mass is result of lobbying. Every human being possesses basic intellect to konw what's good/or not for us and its the greed that persuade them to act differently.
And thanks to such simplifies return process customers are being psychologically being tempted to buy without thinking twice sucking more time out of life of masses.
I second your thinking. When think more along your line of thought I always come to the conclusion of blaming human's so called advancement(in tech, finance, politics) being the sole cause all miseries of human today. Seems like we are on wrong path and needs to take inspiration from our ancestor way of life who lived a more satisfying and fulfilling lives.
I differ with you. Assuming, for sake of argument, data is not being scraped for nefarious purpose today then the time when it will be is not too far away.
There are no protections in place as proved by multiple data leeks stories. There are no settings provided by tech companies that let use use there services in total anonymous way or without being a research subject. Do you think gmail will ever implement end-to-end encrypted email service ever?
We need such articles to remind people of what they are getting them-self into and encourage communities to build alternative solutions. Remember those few privacy settings provided by tech companies are result of such stories.
Data that was collected before on an average citizen is puny as compared to what they collect now.
What you are calling blackmail here has been deemed legit for government agencies to do. Also countless instances of private companies misusing data have established a sense of acceptance in minds of people who no longer have will/energy left to fight it.
While I agree with you on the non-algorithmic coding skill being more important in most of the scenarios that an coder deals with at work, I feel having basic understanding of algorithmic skill is important as well for coder success. Interview should test basic algo skills along with other important skills, but when I put myself in interviewers shoe I realize how difficult its is to test on real coding challenges as every company has its own sets of tools and techniques that they use and prefer. Testing it would require first detailing coder on companies present tech culture which is a difficult for a code to get in short duration.
Food for thought- crude oil extracted from earth is being spread all over the earth in the form of plastic and air particle, and is the cause of all forms of pollution that we know of today.
I am hopeful of these changes, too. But market alone won't have any influence in deterring hospitals from charging arbitrary charges. Market works best when there are range of options available, but in case of hospitals in US only few big players are hoarding all medicinal resources leaving patients with no choice.
That a naive thinking. You didn't try to reason the motivation behind the claims of accused scientists in the article. There have been numerous discoveries of ancient artifacts proving again and again the advancement of our ancestors in the field of science and technology. Why is it wrong to study ancient texts to try to understand their techniques? Why are such professionals are being targeted? Do you atleast believe in ancient medical science of Ayurveda, whose methods are increasingly being accepted in modern medical institutions in Europe and USA? You wouldn't dare point finger at them but you would do it, without thinking twice, when someone from your country try do it.
How is that different form what US has been doing for last few decades?
Seems like being ahead in science is like license needed to rule the world. In current time, everyone(no matter at what level in authority hierarchy) wants to rule over others. This kind of selfish mentality is sure to bring end to what we have achieved so far.
