I'm not convinced that a good argument of ethics and empathy could be made without emotions. The whole point of this entire thread is about having empathy for the situation of the workers, which Amazon as a company does not seem to have. If you think you can have an emotion-free Logic And Reason argument involving empathy, I would love to hear it!
I don't know, there's a lot of people who are actively defending Amazon's position and I don't think it's really just casual contemplation in a lot of instances.
It's just not hard to see that these companies are not doing very much to take care of the people who are making these warehouses run, because they are considered to be expendable or replaceable. That's pretty shitty!
If you want to be a sociopath or a robot free of emotions, be my guest. The rest of us live with having emotions. Sorry to tell you that, it's part of what makes people human.
The amount of people trying to defend Amazon in this is absolutely staggering. The amount of people trying to protect what Amazon stands for is revolting. If you are one of these kinds of people you should know that you are the enemy of treating people humanely.
I dunno. My boss is an incredibly tech savvy developer and he loves Zoom and thinks it's fantastic so I don't really see it going anywhere for a while.
I can not imagine wanting to work for someplace that doesn't have the infrastructure to allow for remote work. I'm lucky enough to be able to be choosy about who receives my labor and it's unfortunate that some people have to be relegate to working for bosses who fail to connect with people on a basic interpersonal level. It would be a good outcome for allowing remote work to become a new normal. Give the workers the option. You rely on them and your boss job is meaningless without them.
As a web developer for over 15 years, I can safely say that bad decisions will continue to be made. Such as, CSS-in-JS. Expect the worst. And it's not completely Google's fault although they should never have bothered to invent WebComponents, this sort of thing comes from the hubris of CTOs and technical leads who are the ones pushing these various technologies, and the acolytes who desire these positions following suit. Believe it or not, some people like to use certain tech to satisfy their own personal itches and not because the tech is actually demonstrably better.
#1 assuming I am a he, you're already off to a terrible start. #2 seemingly believing that I am the only person who uses this service #3 the point is that it's not a useless service, and real people use and need it. turn on your brain.
UPS and FedEx charge too much, and I do regular media shipping, so No, do not abolish them. If I could direct all of my tax money that goes to the US military into the USPS I would do that. Give them more money.
