It’s people like you that we have this problem where giving someone 3 out of 5 stars can get them kicked off the platform. It’s because of people like you who won’t honestly review and rate things, giving them the benefit of the doubt, weighing the review more positively because they compensated for it.
No. It’s not petty.
They get 1 star because they messed up my order. Simple as that. Give me what I ordered and then I’ll consider giving them 2-5 stars. The fact that they fixed the issue does not even need to come into play here. They fucked up. They get 1 star. Simple. Easy. Done.
Mention that they fixed the issue, that they compensated for the meal, whatever. But leave the 1 star.
The world would be a better place if everything was rated properly, with a majority being 3 stars.
When I was in my younger 20s I thought/said some of those same things. People saying how this was the best croissant they’ve ever had and so on, while I’m rolling my eyes thinking “oh come on, this can’t even be called a croissant” simply because I’ve been lucky and privileged enough to (1) eat “real” croissants from living in France and (2) have the time to watch tv/read books about how to make the perfect croissants from scratch and having the time to do so.
At some point I found the r/gatekeeping Reddit and realized what an insufferable asshole I was being.
I have a dietary restriction and I make it a point to explicitly call it out when I order my food, ie: “I’ll have the pasta. It’s vegetarian right?” Yet, now and then, I end up getting served something with meat. Especially now with the fake meat substitutes which honestly look 100% like meat to me.
Finding out the burger I’m eating is real meat after taking a few bites and seeing stringy sinew just completely ruins my entire meal.
When this happens, which happens more often than you would think (go ask your vegetarian friends how often they accidentally eat meat through no fault of their own), you can be sure I give them a damning 1-star review. I don’t care how my friends review them, then can give them 5-stars, that’s fine. But I’m giving them 1.
There’s a difference between a friend “busting your balls/ovaries/whatever” and having a laugh with you vs. a 13 year old redditor calling women they don’t like Karen.
This is an absurd argument. At the very least, science can absolutely provide conclusive evidence that the world is not flat and that vaccines cannot cause autism. This isn’t a “belief.” This can be shown with clear conclusive evidence. Religious beliefs cannot be tested due to how they are structured (“just gotta have faith”).
So even assuming you are arguing in good faith, an anti-vaxxer and/or a flat-earther are people who can be shown irrefutable evidence that goes against their beliefs and they will simply close their eyes, plug their ears, and scream and shout until you go away. The opinions of those people are ones I don’t care about or think worthwhile because they have already made up their minds and are working backwards to look for evidence that supports their beliefs, and invalidating all others.
This is the trump administration you’re talking about. The 33 year old will just pick whatever choice he thinks his boss, the idiot in the White House, will like. That’s it.
I don’t blame anyone for not knowing that ü = ue if they don’t speak German, but if you are/were one of those people who didn’t know this and just ignored the umlauts altogether (Hügelkultur -> Hugelkultur): the ü and u, ä and a, ö and o... are all different letters. They are not simply modifications to the letters a, o, and u. They are different letters entirely, which can also be represented as ae, oe, and ue. But they are NOT the letters ae, oe, ue, if that makes sense.
Yes. Most people in my lab have a MacBook (Pro) where we do most of our coding, and we ssh into a Linux cluster to run most of the compute. We have desktops but these are all Windows/Linux dual boots. We all practically need to use PowerPoint as well, so Mac is nice to have here since it can’t go on Linux laptops, and nobody wants to constantly reboot all the time.
> otherwise you just have an unsorted collection of links - not helpful
Yeah I think this is my problem. I’m on iOS so I use Safari’s reading list feature to keep track of articles I want to read. But it’s just a dump, no organization, and after I read an article I don’t know what to “do” with it anymore so I just delete it.
I think I need to figure out a system where I actually refer back to things because I seem to google for the same things over and over again. Pinboard seems like it could help
Can you all share your workflow/use cases with this and other bookmarking services?
I’m geniounly curious because the way I treat bookmarks is that they are temporary links I wanna go back to, so they all end up being deleted sooner rather than later. When I want to visit a website I just type in the website’s name in my browser and either let autocomplete do its magic, or just let it take me to Google where I tap on the first link. The idea of keeping bookmarks saved and organized/tagged is alien to me.
I ordered a vegetarian meal from a place I wanted to try. They delivered it, the item had a big green VEGGIE sticker on it, but taking a bite my mouth was filled with meat.
The only recourse I had was to use the app’s help feature and mark it as “incorrect dietary restrictions” and select which item in the order was wrong.
Deliveroo instantly gave me credit for it, which isn’t a refund but I’d use the credit sooner or later so not a big deal.
But now the problem is that I have a neat filled burrito that I can’t eat. I’ve once again accidentally ate meat through no error on my part, so my entire meal is ruined because my mood is ruined. There was a desert I could eat, but that’s it. I ended up waiting 30 minutes for a delicious meal only to end up with just a desert and now I have to spend time to cook my own meal.
If the restaurant would have delivered me another meal then I’d probably still consider ordering from them again, but with the way the app is set up, that I got a measly €10 credit for one part of the meal (still had to pay for delivery, the dessert that I didn’t eat, and a tip cause it was raining). This just meant I’ll never give that restaurant another chance.
My bad, I misunderstood, but I’m not sure how tips are relevant.
It seems like the GP(?, the first poster in this chain) was saying that delivery works for places like Domino’s which hires and pays their own couriers a standard wage. That wage is already accounted for in Domino’s pricing, and since that employee has to show up to work even when there aren’t deliveries they can be put to work. Thus, there are no additional costs to Domino’s as everything is presumably priced taking this into account.
When you outsource your delivery, the company being hired takes a cut. That company (Postmates etc) need to use this cut to pay their couriers. Postmates can only ask for so much before the store just says no, it’s not worth it. Those couriers need to be paid enough that it’s worth it for them to keep delivering. So, Postmates scales up to make up for it in bulk by taking losses by offering deals. Those deals don’t last forever, and customers like me only order because of the deals will just go away.
I’m not religious, but I do enjoy talking to Muslims and other religious people to learn their world views. Even though my personal beliefs are incompatible with their concept of a divine power.
But people who believe in flat earth theory, a 6000 year old planet, that one skin color is better than the others… I have much better things to do with my life than to even try to understand this level of crazy.
Edit: I fully see/understand the irony here, that I’m saying similar things as what people in those groups are saying about my beliefs. Maybe deep down, they really do believe that Obama and Clinton ran a pedophile pizza ring or that Biden flew to China to import SARS-CoV-2. And that’s the problem. They BELIEVE. There is no factual basis. It’s just what they believe because it reinforces their worldview. I don’t want to associate or interact with those types of people because nothing is based in reality.
This is my problem with these efforts to get people out of their “bubble.”
I am on the left end of the American political spectrum. I’d Vote Blue no matter what because the other side is too far gone, to the point where it’s not even worth my time or energy to even begin to understand that side. For me, it’s just objectively wrong.
“My” team believes in science. The other team believes that there are shadow forces in the government who control everything and that people on “my” side are devil worshiping pedophiles who believe that my skin color makes me a lesser person or that my Jewish friends are trying to “replace” them.
This is a lot of words, but at the end of the day, people who believe in Q conspiracy bullshit are lost causes and their viewpoint or beliefs are simply not worth the time, effort, energy, or patience to understand because there is nothing to understand and nothing to emphasize with because it is all unsound bullshit.
It may be true that there are always two/both sides, but it’s definitely not true that both sides are equal, or both sides are worthwhile.
And for me, this is the core problem here with “breaking out of your bubble.” I DONT want to see outside my bubble because it’s just not worth the time. Now, I know this makes me sound like a closed minded bigot. I’d agree that was the case if the people outside of my “bubble” are arguing about sound things and not conspiracy bullshit, but they aren’t.
It’s a fact that 5G isn’t causing coronavirus, and I’m not going to leave my bubble to put up with your bullshit. It might as well be a fact that HRC did not run a pedophile pizza ring, and there is no point in me listening to that side because it’s completely nonsense.
Both sides are not equal. Both sides are not worth listening to.
One more edit: this website looks like a combination of r/changemyview and r/unpopularopinion. The former is full of trolls who have no intention of listening, and the latter which are people posting about positions they don’t agree with in a way to make themselves feel like a victim, all for internet karma.
Like the person you responded to said, employees working for those stores can do useful work when they aren’t delivering. Here the Domino’s are delivered by bicyclists and those people are doing work for the store when they’re waiting for deliveries. That work justifies them being paid a wage. For Postmates et al., those drivers aren’t doing anything useful during their downtime. They have nothing to sweep or dishes to clean etc. Postmates et al need to pay them enough to make it worthwhile for them, which gets passed onto the customers.
Personally, I’ve ordered a ton of food delivery lately from places I’ve wanted to try but never found time to go. But, I don’t order from them more than once, so those businesses aren’t making a customer out of me.
