I’m impressed by the number of people that have long-running still active lifetime licenses!

Has any company’s “lifetime” license lasted more than, say 5 years? 10? (I mean for software that is updated or requires a server of course).

I like the jetbrains model well enough.

Nobody thinks there’s a biological cause to the demographic challenges so many nations look to be facing.

So what you’ve stated is true but tautological with respect to all of the potential causes of the bottleneck.

The real concern is getting through the bottleneck at all, and without societal upheaval.

It’s hyperbole to suggest that many people at any company would say “yes, let’s kill thousands of people to increase profits 1%”.

Instead they would say “let’s use this contractor, they’re 1% cheaper” never considering that the difference is made up from decreased safety that kills people.

Society only tends to equate these two kinds of cases when action causes very direct harm.

I think the proposed rewrite better captures the author’s intention:

> I was trying to explain why the arguments saying it's impossible are inconclusive and we shouldn't throw out the possibility too quickly

Specifically the point is that the author believes that impossibility has not been adequately proven. Not that possibility has been proven.
