This is why I hate patents. If CRISPR were put behind a paywall, none of this would have happened. Everything having to be about profit is getting tiring.
You have this feeling only because you have something to compare it to, the new generation don't have that "problem", they will only know AI. The future is bleak.
Prices of RAM, GPUs, SSDs and even HDDs are now way out of reach for many people [0]. An SSD I bought 2 years ago at $300 CAD now cost $1K CAD for example and it's not gonna go down any time soon.
The problem I have with it is the price (I am not talking about the money). I don't know if the price is worth it. For example we are literally witnessing the death of the personal computers, it will soon become a rich people's hobby. I don't know how the whole Free Software/Open source will survive that.
At best we will end up not owning nothing, not even the programming skills as everyone will be at the mercy of AI companies for their coding.
We are still in the honey moon phase of AI coding, I have a very pessimistic view of the future.
None of that is the problem, shit happen, the problem is them asking them to come get their stuff instead of apologizing and sending the luggage at their own expense with a free ride at a future time.
Are you joking? What civilized society? A society that let people who can't afford insulin die? Let kids starve if they are from poor neighbourhoods? What civilized society are you talking about? The one bombing countries left and right and financing a genocide? What civilization is that? A society where people with full time jobs live paycheck to paycheck with no savings? A society where millions cannot afford shelter and where homelessness is a crime? What civilization is that? When is it OK for you to revolt?
America is not the only country in the World. Here in Montreal, minimum wage went up to around $15 an hour, in the same time a clean one bedroom apartment went from $600-800 to minimum $1500. I live alone and used to spend around $250 in groceries a month now it's around $600 and so on and so forth. And I am not at minimum wage. I can't even fathom how someone making $20 an hour manages to survive.
We have a huge surge of homeless people, mostly because renting one room was about $150-200 now it's around $600 for a crappy one.
People are struggling and the way you wrote that comment, you seem to have no idea as you are personally not yet a victim of the system.
Just think about how much one is struggling to turn around and burn a whole warehouse and how normal people are reacting to it.
What do you mean by violence? Do you consider someone building a monster of a server farm near your home and messing up with your drinking water, electricity and life in general violence? Why violence is only immediate physical one that counts?
I stopped reading Sci-Fi, it's just all dystopia and even when it's about a Utopia it's mostly about how it crumbles like with the Terra Ignota Series.
We live in a dystopia, we need some utopian ideas, enough of the gloom and doom that ends up being a self-fulfilling prophecy..
