I was in Snowdonia, the mountain region of north Wales during the summer and there were several hundred orthodox Jewish people hiking around the lakes and hills wearing the standard Orthodox outfit of white shirts/heavy coat/black trousers or long skirts/long shirts for the women. So in that case it seemed like the clothing was exactly the same as for non-hiking activities. I kept seeing Jewish family groups in the area all weekend so I guessed that it was a group holiday organised from (likely) Manchester. Was the first time in my life I’d seen the distant hills covered in white dots that weren’t sheep.

Everyone else (non-Jewish) around was wearing standard hiking or athleisure wear.

Saw something similar while in the Catskills:

Was a pretty tough rock scramble and men were wearing dress pants, button down shirts and formal shoes.

Then again, I went to grad school with someone who was Orthodox and asked him a similar question as the OP and he said "Well, I don't wear this to play basketball".
