We're looking for a great Full-Stack Javascript Engineer who can help us to design and build our world-class product for modern charities.
Our technology stack is built entirely around JavaScript running on AWS. The front-end web app is built with React and Redux. Beacon's back-end infrastructure is based around microservices running on AWS Lambda, making Beacon the world's first serverless CRM.
At Tray we've built a powerful, flexible platform that can connect an organisation's entire cloud stack using APIs. Using our visual workflow builder our customers create automations to drive their business processes without writing any code. Our challenge is to build a product that is powerful and complete while also being beautiful and easy to use.
Our customers so far include IBM, Forbes, GitHub, and Digital Ocean.
Tray.io | Solutions Engineer | London - ONSITE | Full Time
We are an ambitious and well funded startup looking for top engineering talent to make connecting software services a breeze. Many software services we use every day are distinctly separate and difficult to use together - we intend to fix that.
Your role as a Solutions Engineer will involve extending the tray.io integration platform through the implementation of 3rd party “connectors”. Connectors are wrappers around REST APIs which allow data to be sent in and out of the tray.io platform. Your role will involve quickly understanding how any given SaaS tool works and how to use its API.
You will:
- Design, implement, test, and maintain connectors
- Work with 3rd parties and customers to establish your developer access to their APIs
- Contribute to the design and development of our internal tools for building connectors
Requirements:
- Experience with REST APIs
- Knowledge of a number of different SaaS tools
- Experience writing Javascript (ideally Node.js)
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to think outside the box
- The desire to learn, improve and work within a close knit team

This is really good! Love the clean style. We tried to do something similar a while ago with http://www.zonino.co.uk although we scraped the jobs from startups sites which works quite nicely. Haven't updated for a ages though. You could consider doing something similar. I echo the comments about location filters! Please make that a priority!
I couldn't agree more. If we want more transparency from employers we (as engineers) should start with being transparent with each other. I had no idea that legislation existed in the US - that's really interesting!
I would argue that in London it's the fact that talking about salaries is considered rather taboo in tech that perpetuates non-disclosure. I wrote a post about it a while ago: http://blog.zonino.co.uk/on-salaries-in-london-startups/

I think you've hit the nail on the head here. We've had a similar experience building http://www.zonino.co.uk. Plenty of interest from employers but without the traffic it's hard to justify charging. This is where sites like Stackoverflow really stand out because they already have a flow of relevant and highly engaged traffic.
I think there's something fundamentally strange about the UK and the startup scene in particular where it's considered poor form to discuss salaries. Startups are unwilling to be up front about it and engineers are reluctant to discuss it with each other. I think each of those things feeds the other and we end up with a lack of transparency that is as much cultural as anything else.
What we set out to try and do was to build something that didn't rely on companies posting their jobs. Free tech job boards are a dime a dozen. We wanted this to be an up to date account of the jobs that are available as a useful tool to job seekers. That said, you make a really good point about building a client API and I think that's the route we should go: Seed the site with scraped stuff but enable companies to upload their jobs, too.
I totally agree about applications being a nightmare. Some systems are starting to simplify this but it would be great if there was some standard for it. That's something we've talked about, too and we think would be useful. But this actually requires getting startups on board which will take time - but hopefully a few mavericks will want to join in!
