Maybe this is true if you only look at paid labor, but there are other ways in which elders add value to society, as they do a lot of invisiblized unpaid work. Their pensions play a role in supporting the economy, as much as people seem to only think of pensions as a burden to source and rarely as supporting the economy when it gets spent.

I get this feeling sometimes, like it is so unreliable at referring to context and getting details right it feels like deliberate random rewards to create the equivalent to a gambling addiction. About half my tokens feel wasted on trivial errors that i gave it the context for, on average. And any meta discussions / clarifications result in Claude telling me I did all the right things and there is nothing more I can do and it should have gotten it right from the provided input - which is disempowering but to be fair is at least better than chatGPT gaslighting users about improving prompts over and over to get no better result in the end.

This. I use AI to bounce off ideas when i wordsmith for work, but mostly when my human counterpart is unavailable to do so and I can't wait until they return eg. when they were on extended time off. The AI isn't as good though, it's like asking an overeager intern instead of a thoughtful senior.

Add to it that not all LLMs are equal: at work I have access to the latest GPT models and can customize them myself. At home anything I tried in LM studio feels very limited/inflexible. All models i tried running were useless except one codestruct, which was half decent at answering clarification questions about c# code from tutorial, but failed the task i initially tried it for: generating bespoke tutorials that fit my knowledge gaps, which would have been my ideal scenario because most tutorials aren't written for someone like me.

It's another reason LLMs are a bit disappointing to me, they don't seem to be good at handling queries I couldn't solve with a web search, and have similar issues as search results when they do have answers - this makes sense since that's how they are trained, but often defeats the purpose for me.

My new cheap proxy to save mental cost: pay to search on kagi, sort results by tracker count. My hope is fewer trackers correlates with lower incentives to seo spam. This may change but seems to work decently for now.

I don't know, sometimes all it takes is one or two very committed community members, like in cebu city.

gmaps used to be nice for traffic too but these days it shows delays and suggests to reroute at every traffic light as if the whole city was at a standstill sometimes even when roads are not busy at all...

yup, I do too. It's no fun driving 20 miles just to find the office/store/restaurant/petrol station is closed either
