I don't see how envy can be good. It can be a motivation booster (to do better, to go further, etc.), but not a positive one by far. When one envies another, there is at some level a certain misunderstanding of the whole concept of someone being that good, which makes this person (maybe even involuntarily) think of himself better or worthier.
