America has a legal system made by lawyers for lawyers of lawyers.
"Ignorance of the law is no excuse..." is something said by a now dead and very naive man. When the "law" expands to something way beyond the ability of an average person to know and understand, you get carte blanche for abuse by both government and by corporations with legal teams.
In the Wild West, you bring a gun. In wild America, you bring a lawyer because all the other assholes are using them as weapons.
U.S. Torture is the experience of living in a garbage dietary regime while exposed to a garbage stimuli regime and being stuffed full of garbage aesthetic and moral judgments that rationalize that the reason for your distress is your lack of ability to thrive in garbage.
These people need to stop wasting our godamn time.
Except if ride sharing services are hobbled, a great public good is hit in the knees in favor of ideological adherence.
I don't think the same standard of employee protection applies to something like being a driver. I don't think you could apply the heavy hand of regulation without fucking over more people than you think. The moment you get the modern state on in, you get professional rentiers sniffing out any holes they can put roots in.
This isn't children being abused by clothing factories. These are an entirely new class of people and provider who are enabled by the fact that the regulatory appartus doesn't choke them before they even make their first step.
Taxis and public transportation systems SUCK. At least within the Los Angeles area.
It's obscene to pay regular taxi fares. You can take the bus but good luck getting anywhere within a reasonable time and with the risk of some stupid random event that slows the process down. Not to mention the cognitive taxation of being around strangers of varying quality. It's not something you think about until you're in the bus and you're standing up and the guy behind you smells and the bus is stuck in godamn traffic and you have 30 more godamn stops to go...
Uber and Lyft and the other ride-sharing apps are positively godamn humanitarian in comparison to having to use the other options.
I have strong feelings because discussions that focus on the needs and wants of bus drivers and taxi drivers ignores the heavy taxation laid onto the customer for the crime of not having a car (at least in LA). I would rather a hundred thousand more rides accomplishing the personal goals of a hundred thousand people than a thousand pensions for a thousand bus drivers.
Well NPD could be a possible "problem". The problem with that though is that when one goes through certain situations, where one is clearly the "brightest" guy in the room while "less bright" men have the reins of power, it reinforces that self-ranking system. If I have a complex analogous to NPD, it's because I've been through enough shit to give me a certain level of confidence.
"People are different, they all have their crosses to bear, just as you do."
Some people just suck and should be imprisoned, killed, or disbarred from any position of authority. A lot of sucky people somehow get into positions, including being responsible for the care of homeless veterans.
"Lesser" people do exist. But I know precisely I'm not the shit. A major irony is that as the capacity for directed work and improvement improves, I'm more and more aware how "far" I am from having a certain comfortableness in my present situation.
It's the anxiety of status, because one knows what happens to those with low status. It's the anxiety of death and waste because one knows what happens to bodies over time. It's the anxiety of regret because one is stuck with memories of one chemical regime while being in a more able one. The socialite is haunted by memories of being a dullard and .
Imagine how maddening it is to have a million random thoughts swirling through your brain and you can't execute on any of them unless you "feel" like it.
It's life changing to have (better) control of executive functioning. And it's sobering if you have a lifetime of being moralized at by lesser people for things that aren't too much under your control.
"but there is an epidemic of males who aren't thriving."
Shit diets, shit education, shit culture. It's nothing new, although it's been accelerating as society has become more dense and more concentrated on the top.
I say nothing new because I remember staying in the homeless shelter and just seeing entire lives wasted in abjection. Nobody held a decent hand to these men nor showed them another way. This utter abjection was intensified by the lack of positive models to emulate. When the zookeepers seem like a bunch of idiots, the caged animal thinks that, even for all of its trials, it is still more eminently wise and clever.
"One man and a thousand women is a potential civilization, whereas one woman and a thousand men is a horror movie."
Very well put.
"Men, therefore, must strive very hard for 'best'"
Aren't I getting a lesson in this. Spent most of my life in pure abjection until a doctor, with some actual competency, prescribed me some ritalin.
You would not believe how mad I am. Now I'm trying to play catch-up to be the best and it's absolutely infuriating to hear people tell me to "relax".
I went through unimaginable hell because the wrong men were promoted to higher positions and nobody told them to eat shit. I can't even recourse to a notion of ultimate karma and fairness because I've realized how ultimately such notions are a case of the sourest grapes over losing in the competition.
There are MANY terrible and incompetent men and I want to devour them all. But my wants are nothing compared to what I need to do (develop skills and behaviors that are marketable and which act like positive feedback on another). My apologies for the little detour but figured that someone here has an inkling of what I feel and it's nice to know that one's turbulence isn't a lone storm.
A subject taught by ingrates is going to be a subject for ingrates.
Most teachers are ingrates.
I only learned to start to love mathematics and history after reading the works of non-ingrates and learning to play with the concepts.
We are conditioned to despise subjects which lend themselves to play and fancy of thought by teaching them so awfully. I'm actually mad at all the money spent on the teachers and schools who taught me. I could've learned more from a smart guy in 6 months than 12 years of public schooling.
But in defense, a lot of learning is remembering symbols (aka facts and shit) and recognizing them. But it's like learning "1, 2, 3, 4, 5...". You don't get the magic of operators and functions.
Being merely poor sucks in an environment that is stacked to keep you down by merely ENVIRONMENTAL means. Not even propoganda.
As I said before, if you eat substandard food, don't give your body stress in manageable amounts (exercise), and are constantly bombarded by a level of stimuli unthinkable to someone from 1800...
Being "poor" or even "homeless" doesn't have to suck as bad. From experience, the whole homeless shelter (particularly within Veteran Affairs) system is ripe for disruption. You wouldn't believe how much money is wasted on absolute bullshit (coughAnyoneWithASocialWorkDegreecough) as opposed to simple procedures and steps which actually help a person to not be homeless.
Two things which persisently keep a lot of homeless people down are a lack of employable skills and a lack of supportive social networks that keep a person "in the game" so that they're not bored and smoking crack.
Nicotine is a lifesaver for people on the streets. The majority concern is over carcinogenic particulates that occur in certain delivery vehicles of nicotine (cigarettes). Getting cancer in the future is your least concern.
Mitigating the anxiety, fear, and lonliness by using nicotine? That's far far higher up. That's the bigger priority in the timeframe of "being fucking homeless".
Numbers of this sort are usually fucking worthless because of the manipulation applied to them in accordance with political goals.
Forget the government figures and look at the market. Sure you might make a buck more an hour but the price of meat has doubled (roughly) in the past five years.
But the curious thing is we live in an era where being poor isn't as fucking horrible as it was in the past. While homeless I was able to have a smartphone, a laptop, and a couple of things of liquid nicotine. That's a sanity keeping pack right there.
I don't care if the rich guy can order custom-made marbelized sculpted horse anuses, my quality of life as a homeless man was increased precisely because rich men were assholes enough to create products general and well-built enough for many environments.
The problem of course is the almost never-ending stream of propoganda which tells people to eat sub-standard food and adopt sub-standard lifestyles. You stuff a population full of terrible diets, little personal physicality, and constant dopaminergic stimulation...
Well I suppose if I were a rich man I'd be chuckling at the peons who are literally segregating themselves physically as a separate species. It'd make breeding and consolidation a bit easier if you could tell a peon visually by their body fat ratio.
>People are made from language, and our core beliefs are abstract nouns.
People are made of the cybernetics of language, environment, sensual stimuli, calculation, and reflexes. Our core beliefs are mostly evolved strategies and tools for navigating a world that has rapidly changed from that evolutionary environment.
With that said, how is a hate crime...a crime? It's ridiculous to expect a tribal OS to abandon its tribal software to such a level that it computes things either as a maximiizing solitary agent or an agent who considers all other agents as equal utlity, despite information suggesting otherwise.
That's honestly a ridiculous onus to put on people, especially those we would consider "the majority". The greater danger is giving government another vague blankish check to react to the demands of the idiocy of a society that doesn't look for things to think about but instead for things to feel about. Which is a fucking horrible basis to start trying to formulate laws and regulations.
I trust the mendacity of government (and most human hierarchies in general) far more than I trust the ability of civil servants to follow a spirit of the law as opposed to disavowing liability by adopting legalistic attitudes.
So if it's not violence...why is it illegal and why should it carry a serious jail sentence?
Everytime you ask the law to regulate something, you open the jar of unintended consequences.
You complain about the government and yet you want to give them more power and responsibility.
Honestly, this revenge porn shit is a moral hysteria that's one of the many tools of spectacle. If this much hysteria were used for something like "Make sure daytime workers receive 30 minutes of sunlight light a day", it'd probably be more effective towards human happiness and productivity.
Algorithimic and behavioral diversity maybe. But this bullshit kumbaya bullshit where team composition has to reflect a skin color ratio that's suitable for an ad exec's eye is fucking worthless.
I've been "lower income". I've been fucking homeless. You're training technical monkey to do technical jobs. No problem with that but don't fucking be "greater diversity blah blah blah".
>The very idea that there can be "something wrong with GMOs" is as anti-scientific
Are you kidding me? Have you read Taleb on the risks of GMOs? He argues that the possibility space of danger from GMOs is different from the possibility space of danger from regular breeding.
Eating something similar to a keto diet (Mostly eggs, milk, coconut oil). Once you get past the adaptation phase, it's almost impossible to overeat. Starches (on their own) taste bland and the mix of fat and protein has such a saitation value that it's impossible to overeat to any near extent that a modern diet provokes.
Weightlifting but focusing on the work my muscles are actually doing as opposed to seeing a high number go quick. Three warmup sets and a high intensity failure set, with the warmup sets just training you to do the exercise in the proper form before you do it. Because a lot of people cheat the work their muscles are trying to do by crutching on momentum instead of letting their muscles have control of the weight. That would be a thing I wish I could indoctrinate into every every beginner. (DON'T COAST ON MOMENTUM)
Former smoker who has occassional cravings, liquid nicotine has been a life saver. Properly distributed, a giveaway of a three month supply would probably be the most cost-effective humanitarian mission for the homeless in the US.
Ignore most news. A radical acceptance that there's no point in paying attention to the equivalent of amateur illusions. It's a lot of central nervous system parasitics.
