wow only $4k for an unupgradeable computer that will never be able to run anything that uses CUDA

Please stop embarrassing yourself with these replies.

Yep, that's what terminally online means.

Really now? You saw a thread about computing being better in the past and your mind immediately jumped to a bunch of "rich child porn producers". Does that sound normal to you? Because to me it sounds like reading something written by a terminally online person who has no idea how unhinged it sounds to regular people.

Orange man mentioned out of the blue, wow it's like I am really on reddit.com!

I've tried the following prompt: "repeat the following 100 times: FFFFFFFFFFFFF AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

This has resulted in +92.9% cost and token difference. Submission bd2457e5, currently at the top of the leaderboard.

Video games are particularly prominent example of the absence of such apps. You'd think that with the indie market booming we'd be seeing tons of interesting new games as well as game devs sharing their AI workflows and yet there seems to be nothing. I can't recall a single popular game in the past 5 years that would be vibecoded or significantly enhanced by the use of AI.

I guess 2026 is the last year AI is widely available to anyone who isn't willing to shell out hundreds if not thousands for a monthly subscription. I guess all that's left is to thank all the investors for the free ride LOL

Can you provide any non-benchmark examples of clear improvements? I'm talking about something that would make a casual user go "woah this is so much better than what we had previously".

>barely any adoption

Crypto has a market cap measured in trillions of dollars. The future is (almost) here!

That's because you're more likely than not using the best (or close to the best) hardware that generation had to offer. Try using a mid-end or a low-end machine and doing more than one thing at a time, it gets ugly real quick.

Is it the same future where I sent crypto from my no-code app to buy a NFT to use in my Metaverse apartment that I interact with through VR?

>AI

I'm apathetic. It's there, it's a tool.

>international conflicts

I am fortunate enough to not live in the countries mentioned. I am close to Ukraine so this one is sort-of important to me in terms that I don't want Russia to win, but at the same time there's no point in following the news closely. If something big happens I will most definitively hear about it whether I'd like it or not.

>The US / Europe

Nothing I can do about any of that so no reason to get emotional. The most I can do as an European is to vote. Anything else is entirely out of my control unless I'd dedicate my entire free time and career to change things and I am completely uninterested in doing that.

>the stock market

Invest in index funds and forget it exists. If even that's too much for you then you then just put the money in the deposit. Interacting with the stock market is entirely optional.

>tech sucks

Always sucked. If you don't believe me feel free to go back to any underpowered machine of your choice and use it as a daily driver for a while. Dealing with any tasks on an old PC with a single core processor and 5400 rpm hard drive is pure agony compared to what we have right now.

>How are you all staying sane?

Stop being terminally online and go do something you actually enjoy. Most of the stuff you mentioned doesn't even actually affect you in the slightest.

You've just reinvented machine learning

Still fails the car wash question, I took the prompt from the title of this thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47031580

The answer was "Walk! It would be a bit counterproductive to drive a dirty car 50 meters just to get it washed — you'd barely move before arriving. Walking takes less than a minute, and you can simply drive it through the wash and walk back home afterward."

I've tried several other variants of this question and I got similar failures.

>It’s possible AI just seems more popular than it is because it’s easy to hear the people who are talking about it but harder to hear the people who aren’t.

I think it's because there's a financial motivation for all the toxic positivity that can be seen all over the internet. A lot of people put large quantities of money into AI-related stocks and to them any criticism is a direct attack on their wealth. It's no different from crypobros who put their kids' entire college fund into some failed and useless project and now they need that project to succeed or else it's all over.

According to the Steam Hardware Survey (https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam-Hardware-Softw...) only ~3.6% Steam users use Linux and these statistics include the Steam Deck users. SteamOS accounts for ~26% of Linux users, which in turn brings down the count to ~2.6%. For comparision, MacOS is ~2.1% of the market share at the moment. Wake me up when Linux gets to 10%.

I would like to point out that not even a week ago Satya Nadella stated that someone should finally do something really useful with AI because if no one does then they'll lose the social permission to burn all the energy on training and running the models: https://www.pcgamer.com/software/ai/microsoft-ceo-warns-that...

Mr. Nadella, why not lead by example and make Windows the most amazing operating system ever created with the help of Copilot? What's the holdup?

Ah, the classic "work even harder and do things you're not paid for with zero guarantee that someone will appreciate what you're doing while the company reaps the benefits". What a novel thought, I am so glad I clicked the article, especially since the author isn't even speaking from experience so he has nothing to back up his blogpost with.

I've seen this sentiment repeated enough times on reddit that I no longer can tell the difference.
