I personally think one problem with this article is their cult following of science. I guess there isn't conclusive scientific evidence that social media or video games are addictive or detrimental to you. But should I wait possible decades for more conclusive research? I rather not. I know I have been addicted to video games and it has negativity impacted my life.
The reason people are making these 'assumptions' about social media/video games being addictive is because they can see it in their own life and the life of others. The 'hard science' this guy is talking about just hasn't catched up.
I personally dont believe being gay is a right. Just a lifestyle that society happens to tolerate. Using equality and justice to defend LGBT means any fetish or degenerate behavior that is not socially accepted can be justified as oppression.
Heterosexual couples have been the norm for thousands of years, and the traditional family has been proven through survival to be a good way to raise children. People don't know the long term societal consequences of a homosexual marriages. Could be no issue, or it could be Pandora's box. Either way, it's stilly to take these studies of <200 families seriously, especially when there's a clear a agenda among political groups to promote normalization of homosexuality.
If it's based on current ML it's not. Otherwise you can't claim it is sentient just because it can process information. How do you know if your photocopier isnt sentient?
Recreational marijuana use is a net negative on society. I've seen so many people in my life become addicted to it. It hurts to see it portrayed as cool in modern pop culture and it hurts to see people who want to legalize it ignore the long term down sides. It may not cause liver damage like alcohol, but it still has the same dark impact on your psyche.
Can you or someone explain to me or link me reasons why BSD is a preferable choice to linux? What kind of advantages and disadvantages are there to the OS?
> You can always justify a conspiracy theory on the basis that you can’t prove a negative like this.
Its not about definitively claiming they are being nefarious, its about they CAN be, and Apple isn't transparent enough for us to know if they're not. So its about risk. People can use Apple products, I don't really care, but they risk their privacy when they do, and thats not a risk people should have to take when using an OS.
"The main difference is that this time around there are people who are claiming that Apple is using the OCSP checks for some kind of nefarious tracking purposes."
What proof is there that we should trust Apple? They could tracking for nefarious purposes for all you know. Thats the problem.
