This is becoming a bit of an epidemic. Not every attack or exploit (and especially not a social engineering one) needs a name out of Metal Gear or a website.

Why would demand imply costs will be reduced? If you're making an economies of scale argument, there's plenty scale right now, and costs don't seem to be trending down.

did you miss the point of the article?

This should be a Show HN

So why hasn't the HomeAssistant docs page been nuked yet?

It's the same epidemic. I don't think the author has a problem specifically with Chromebooks.

Well, sure. Maybe you're the kid in the article who opened Xcode and Blender and Final Cut, but it didn't click for you. Of course not everything is for everyone, but it doesn't prove exploring the limits like that is a bad thing.

Why do you think they're fewer and farther between? It's almost certainly at least partially because of Chromebooks and the save-the-user-from-themself design philosophy.

What exactly is wrong with installing an abandoned product? Just because it's abandoned doesn't mean you can't use it.

Do you have a blog post on the oops? I'd love to read it.

So what's the alternative? Should we go back to reading encyclopedias from the 2010s? I ask this because the need for information hasn't decreased for human beings, just because the capability to produce slop has suddenly increased.

It's quite unfortunate that this has to be controversial.

And why not Docker? I feel reluctant to suggest it even though you explicitly declined it, but it really does seem to be the best solution.

Well, yeah. There are always ways to get around laws. But this is like saying taxes are a bad idea because tax evasion exists.

Why do companies even do this? It's not like they were prevented from being evil until they removed the line in their mission statement. Arguably being evil is a worse sin than breaking the terms of your missions statement

The author is dead. I think we can consider it as much a cautionary tale about digitised human brains as we can about the other things.

And Blindsight. I will recommend Blindsight all day, even if it's not directly to do with uploading.

Worth noting that this is the thesis of Seeing Red: A study in consciousness. I think you will find it a good read, even if I disagreed with some of the ideas.

> During the Second World War, almost every motorised vehicle in continental Europe was converted to use firewood.

How is this the first time me (or anyone else in this comment section) is hearing about this? It seems like a pretty major deal.
