Gotcha, thanks for clarifying. If you’re treated as FTE, why are you not?
I’ve had a similar situation before, and I will say that of course they want to make you feel like an FTE while keeping you on contract. That is the best of both worlds for them, of which you reap nothing but self-employment paperwork.
If it was for a big client needing a business solution, sure I'd say you need to choose Wordpress as it is industry standard. But because it sounds like your client is an individual who hired you for their own personal needs, IMO Wordpress is overkill here.
Better yet, just hook up a YAML flat file, show them where it is in Github, and give them collaboration permissions :D
As someone who has been critical of TripleByte here on HN in the past, I appreciate the identification and acknowledgment of where things went wrong and why people were unhappy. This seems like a sincere pivot where the community was heard. Wishing TripleByte luck and success.
I can also report I haven’t received a single TripleByte email since the issue was last brought up :) Thank you for standing by that.
Thanks for the feedback there, and for checking it out. I’m still working on an ideal process for optimizing identification of the lines you want to use. The issue with both the count and the start is that you have to have some awareness of those indexes. I’m working on a more visual way to pick and choose commands (think git squash commit picking).
Unless you mean start as in, type a command to begin “recording” and then type an end command when you’re done? Interesting idea
We are no longer able to discern truth from falsehood, and as a result are scared into polarization by the nature of our surroundings. We no longer morally stand strong against the pull of power as we may have once did.
The ensuing discussions are more often than not, nothing more than desperate attempts of talking past one another.
Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Palestinian, Israeli, human. We all deserve peace and love.
I want Palestinians to have a home. I want Israelis to have a home as well. It’s a complex issue. And because there is not necessarily an easy answer, we more easily fall victim to the tide of fear and frustration on a global scale.
Existence is suffering. May we all find a way to survive.
Can confirm, as part of the wudu or pre-prayer washing ritual, you are required to rinse your privates with water if you have not done so or used the restroom since your last prayer. Often times this is done with a bidet. Watering pots are also common :D
I was solely commenting on the SV compensation point, but yes, you’re totally right that he could be doing less work for significantly more money elsewhere. The accusations are unjust for sure. IMO less because of the salary numbers and more because commit count is simply not a good measure of employee performance.
open source maintainer salary !== FAANG total comp package
E5 engineers at FB are making an avg 200k base [1]. That is not that far off what you would expect the difference to be between open source maintainer and senior engineer at Facebook.
That is not 3-4x. Even if you include stock, that will put the FB eng around 350k. You may have an argument for the 2-3x range but basically only at the very top level companies and senior roles, not mid level contributors. And by including stock or other forms of TC besides base, you begin inflating the impression of cash flow. Stock grants don’t land in your wallet like paychecks do. Your QoL or vested net worth will take time to be impacted. It’s not like all of a sudden you can now afford X% more in your daily life.
Have you tried Blink Mosh shell? I’ve tried them both and blink seems lightyears ahead of prompt. Maybe I didn’t give it enough time when I tried it, but prompt just felt bulkier IMO, which surprised me because Panic makes such great products. Could you elaborate on why you love prompt?
Just like one could live their life wholly not applying the same level of effort you describe here to their lives, living on “zero learned skill” and purely “instinctual means” alone.
I’d argue having children is the same. You can do it with zero effort, or you can do it with intention, to leave behind a better off generation, and devoting yourself selflessly as a parent to that cause.
I believe the lifelong quest of high-quality intention is what ultimately is the greatest achievement of life one can chase. Whether that is intentionally treating others with kindness and leaving pleasant memories, or intentionally raising healthy and inspired children who will continue to take up noble intention.
