"Honestly" is a colloquialism used to indicate disbelief with the previous statement or to preface candidness. Choosing to interpret the colloquial use of "honestly" as an indication that everything else that person says is dishonest is a very weird trait I've only seen show up in grammarian literalists and pedants that only makes yourself seem like a disingenuous person.

Much of that economy is built on having very specific inefficiencies.

My educational experience was almost the exact opposite. Computer class was always typing or application focused, rather than IT focused; typing exercises and learning how to use ClarisWorks rather than anything about how actual computer worked.

While margins are low in shelf-stable grocery staples, profit on that side of the store is usually driven by volume and careful management of labor and process. Margins are also higher on private label goods, so promotional energy is spent on driving consumers to those products. At the store level, most grocery chains have started to increase their food service and perishable offerings, which traditionally have much higher (and more stable) margin which augments the profitability of any individual outlet.

Nah, if it goes to anybody, it goes to food banks (or other 501(c)(3) organizations). The supply chain bifurcates much further up; it'd take a lot of effort for a relatively low volume of unsaleable but unspoiled food at the store level to make it to a restaurant or a wholesaler.

It's not really about "encouragement". This is clearly Apple's plan, and this is merely an incremental step that they must take to normalize certain things before they can achieve what they actually want to.

I don't think the headphone jack will make much of a difference to size (specifically thinness) until they can completely eliminate all ports and move completely to wireless charging. I think that's their endgame here, as ports are the biggest hurdle to the thinness which their industrial designers (and marketers) fetishize.
