This is a repo build using the PyPSA python framework. PyPSA is an open-source Python framework for optimizing modern power systems with renewable energy, storage, and multi-sector coupling.

The repo linked “seeks to complement the tools currently used in the TYNDP cycles, especially for Scenario Building (SB) and Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA). This approach is designed to enhance transparency and lower barriers to stakeholder participation in European energy planning. Beyond Europe, the project aspires to demonstrate the viability of open-source (OS) frameworks in energy planning, encouraging broader global adoption.

To build trust in and ensure reproducibility with the new open-source toolchain, the project first focuses on replicating key figures from the 2024 TYNDP cycle, before aligning with the current 2026 TYNDP cycle. This process involves developing new features within the open-source domain to address existing gaps, integrating tools for data interoperability and dynamic visualizations, and publishing best practices to encourage the adoption of open energy models.”

Why this report is shared appears to be an application of PyPSA for others to reference and become inspired by its implementation.

Why it’s open source I think is clear from the above paragraph. Open source standards make it drastically easier to harmonise and collaborate while allowing as much engagement as possible to scrutinise the framework.

Not disagreeing on the above, I agree quite strongly in fact. It’s important we are critical of our own tribes.

Your final question though is maybe worth a challenge. Why can’t both sides be in the wrong? I always find we are quick to make a problem quite polar without accepting the grey mush in between.

In this case, China has similarly also demonstrated its far reaching and abusive capabilities when given the opportunity (my thoughts around belt-and-road, Tibet, Uighurs and its own treatment of its people in its past). Your point on china not being in a war is also one that can be challenged, proxy wars have and continue to be a thing. China has played their part and continue contributing to active conflicts.

So it turns out the numbers are all valid. With or without AI they just misinterpreted the data. But indeed 2.9 billion records were stolen, whoever wrote this just clearly misunderstood that an individual could have more than 1 record associated to their person.

Outside of those mission requirements you mentioned there are also some limitations in any cryo cooled liquids onboard.

Either the pressure increases internally, liquid off-gases and needs to be refilled (where there is a finite amount left to use), or risk of components freezing up can all play a factor into how long a rocket can stand on the pad for. As a result it’s less a question of how often can they delay the launch and more a question of how long can the rocket stay out on the pad for you to delay into.

Likely a heep of other reasons as well.

That’s a great point, and if that comes to be, that burden shall lay with the rich.

This should all serve as a warning to the wealthy on what will happen if they continue distancing themselves from accountability. It’s a zero sum game.
