> They were never "purchases" and it's more that the terminology has been faulty and misleading, more so than the business model.

They were advertised as purchases. That they were not in actuality has a name: fraud.

The promise of self driving is what's driving Tesla stock.

Two things can happen:

The dream is a bust, and Tesla is worthless.

Or the dream pans out, and almost all other car companies are worth a lot less.

Unless you absolutely want to believe that either self driving is impossible, or Tesla is uniquely unable to achieve it, the valuation is not entirely unwarranted.

Put shortly, Tesla is not a car company, it's a bet on self-driving cars.

It's probably much easier these days to source lithium batteries than NiMH ones.

I heard a story according to which a similar scheme was used in the Algerian war of independence, so these is more retro than scifi. Radio sets were left by the French military for the Algerians to grab. The explosive was hidden in the frame and components, and the trigger was a specific audio frequency. The device looked exactly like a stock military radio set if you disassembled it. So it's not that scifi.

Demanding fairness and reciprocity is not wrong. It's a basic moral position. Furthermore, imposing restriction on totalitarian regimes is perfectly legitimate as well. Letting them do as they please as you argue is, in fact, the morally reprehensible position.

> Because they’re pleasant to look at.

The article mentions cinder blocks ("CMU") -- those are not typically pleasant to look at. Even the ones that are less unpleasant are usually covered, with sidings or paint.

> including those concrete floors which take a while to dry up.

FWIW, the slower concrete dries, the stronger it gets. To the point where critical concrete buildings like bridges are kept moist for days or even weeks with hoses and wet blankets.

It was not criticized because there was a woman, it was criticized because there was a cyborg woman when it was supposed to be a WW2 game.

And I think it was indeed a really stupid picture. Also my grandmother was a prisoner of war of the nazis and got real medals. That fantastic representation of women in war is just idiotic and distorts history to the point of absurdity.

> It's still common for men to talk down to women on video game

I only play games where you can't tell anyone's sex (Starcraft 2 for instance) and you get insulted all the time. You get insulted when you're playing badly, you get insulted when you're playing too well, you get insulted whether you're a man, a woman or a dog.

> You are not getting health insurance in most European countries unless you are working or registered as unemployed and remain at disposal of the local job centre.

Not the case in France (at least for the past 20 years), and I doubt it's the case in most other European countries.
