Why don’t people migrate to developing countries instead to help them directly. This form of migration makes it appear that Western countries are better.

There is a big problem with mass migration and people entering a country with antithetical values and beliefs.

So you think parents should not have a say? Wouldn’t that be rather authoritarian to have whatever books and disregard criticism? Many librarians are activists and are choosing books that are not educational. They are actively selecting books that they agree with.

Can you expand on why you think society should value it?

I have mostly come to the same conclusion. I don’t go on Reddit much these days and hacker news as well. When it comes to political discussions dissent is typically challenged with various means other than debate.

Isn’t ironic that your statement got flagged for you stating that Reddit bans opposing views. Another level before outright banning is the use of downvoting and flagging comments.

I agree with you. The real world is stressful or less than ideal for many reasons and we have to apply our knowledge within that context.

In addition to that, this claim is like the dragon in my garage thought experiment. It an unfalsifiable claim that they have “knowledge” but can’t demonstrate it.

That still doesn’t seem like a reasonable reason to not do tests. In the software analogy you have a unit test that passes but the actual software fails when used in the real world.

What is the point of “knowledge” that can’t be demonstrated. How will that person demonstrate their knowledge of Shakespeare?

What specific “modern social and economic problems” can be attributed to them? The 90s was a period of economic growth after their policies proved to be effective.

The intersection between those with a second home and having a yacht is probably not that many.

Some are criminals, some bring problematic cultures, strain on services and take what is meant for citizens, taking low wage jobs, and they are exploited.

Is your omission of the attacks on October 7 carried out by Hamas equally glaring? How do you know what exactly Israel will do with the weapons? They presumably need this for defense as any country needs weapons for defending themselves.

Have you considered that you can be misinformed? Maybe you are in an echo chamber that makes it appear others are wrong. Maybe there are legitimate concerns regarding illegal immigrants. Maybe you should try to expand your understanding of the situation.

Thanks for clarifying your position. I do see that model as only temporarily possible but eventually reality catches up with the propaganda, the Iraq war being a somewhat recent example. Also, as a citizen the previous model is also essentially requiring the government to lie to us, so I don’t think that as good either, because who will be benefiting from these “good guy” adventures?

Your grievance is that we won’t have good cover to pursue our interests when they conflict with the sovereignty and security of others? You think it was good to lie and say that we’re the good guys while we inflict harm on others?

You’re replying to someone who is suggesting that the CIA can manipulate the facts and fabricating reality.

>It’s easy to see why a liberal democracy supposed to defend liberty across the globe would be interested in making facts accessible.

Who is supposed to defend liberty across the globe? Do you think the US has been doing that and should be doing that?

The point of OP was that the facts from the CIA can’t be trusted. That they can lie about the facts.

Obstructing a federal agent and resisting arrest are crimes.

They do have warrants, and they are under no obligation to show it to bystanders, and they shouldn’t as it has private information.

Maybe your understanding of things is wrong? Maybe the information you are getting on the situation is misleading?

I am a democrat who does support ICE. If there are any issues, as there are given the numbers, they should be investigated. There have been many instances where an “execution” is claimed but they, the agents, were reasonable to assume imminent harm and self defense.
