I wonder if they take into account the fact that if there are no bus routes (or less of them) there is a certain population of people that won't be able to work, and those worker pay taxes and put money back into the economy. Probably impossible to know what the effect is in total and I wouldn't be surprised if its not part of the TCO formula.

As far as Linux phones go there's not many options left and so they're still on the table. If they'd have just came out and said "Sorry, we tied up all the preorder money, and the delays put us between a rock and a hard place." I'd have more respect for it but they responded to Louis Rossman's video in the weirdest way I could imagine and that _really_ turned me off from buying a device from them.

Neat! Might look at this next time I need a JSON parser in C.

I've been using cJSON[0] for years now and am pretty happy with it. I had used wjelement[1] before that but ran into a few issues and eventually moved away from it (can't recall why exactly its been so long.)

> I developed a few apps for Ubuntu Touch, but it's always very far behind Ubuntu. They are about to release 24.04.

That's actually interesting and good to know. Last I looked at Ubuntu Touch they were so far behind I assumed they weren't active. I didn't realize they just lag a lot.

You're not the only one Louis Rossman has a video about this very topic that I saw when I was considering placing an order.

Librem 5 looked promising but last I looked into it, the company seemed kinda sus: https://youtu.be/wKegmu0V75s?si=dyM-FP6JBP_6emm9

You make it sound great to be honest (I'm sure its not though.) How have you survived without income?

I keep my iPhone until it is no longer usable (Fingerprint sensor on my iPhone 6 eventually stopped working, my iPhone X had the battery swell up and bend the case) when this happens and I need a new phone, My wife gets whatever the latest one is and I take her old one (yes, my current iPhone 11 pro is rose gold... I don't care, slap a case on it.)

I give 0 shits about my phone, I actually loathe that I need one at all.

What are some good Open Source / Self Hosted alternatives to Apple Photos (Desktop)? I pretty much keep my Mac Mini around solely to import photos from our phones, free up space on the phone, and backup the Photos DB. We like to go back and look at old photos from time to time too, and the feature that shows them on a map is a big one for us.

Last time I looked (pre-COVID) there wasn't a lot of promising options, and some didn't support HEIF images

I had a weird issue with at least one photo in Apple Photos recently (possibly more that I haven't found) where the photos app showed the image, but I couldn't export it - like it was only a preview. I've upgraded my photos database over many release so I don't know if that's a part of it, the photo in question was from 2018 or so

What if that OEM stops giving them patches?

Also, if they're asking an OEM to release the patches, why can't they become an OEM to do that?

I don't think that worked out too well for Beanie babies though :/

"They can easily get it from OEMs or even make an OEM."[0]

I agree with their points in the thread, but could Graphene "become" an OEM to get access to the security patches sooner? Just curious.
