I'm not doubting you but could you provide sources for your claims? TIA

As a guitarist with over 30 years of playing, and owner of many tube and non-tube amps, I disagree. Even experienced guitarist cannot reliably distinguish between transistor and tube circuits in a blind test. Having said that, if only the knowledge of playing a tube amp gives someone a better experience, even if its not empirically distinguishable, thats a perfectly valid reason to prefer it.

Whoa...I worked on this exact thing around 20 years ago. But in my time, we were using laser pulses to ablate noble metals. Printer would have made life so much easier.

Wait, helix has a file explorer now? The lack of one has been preventing me from using it more

Thanks for the suggestion and sorry for late reply.

I have almost switched over to Bitwig now :D

But I still miss the ease of LoopyPro on iPad.

I'll take this as an opportunity to thank the Ardour developers for making a truly great product. Its really really good.

Off topic but is there a linux DAW which focuses on live loop recording? Something like what the LoopyPro app does on iOS ?

OP said in the submission that this is educational.

Not everything has to be useful.

That is exactly Linux Mint ( https://linuxmint.com/ ) . I encourage you to give it a try. It is what I have settled on after 25 years of using linux, and trying near about every distro in existence.

"The best hifis are professional equipment"

This is gold. I wish so many people understood and used this. Pro equipment is more robust and more versatile. And if you know some people you can get amazing used stuff at bargain prices from your local musicians or sound engineers. Lot of times, people I know (and I too, though I'm not a pro sound engineer) will help you choose and setup just because you showed interest in the things we are interested in. Beers are assumed.

One drawback is that pro audio stuff may look ugly to non pro people. I made my wife listen to the cheapest studio monitors I could find on amazon, equalized with the same pink noise method in this video, and compare it to her bose and marshall speakers. She liked the sound better but my speakers are "yuck ugly" :(
