The issue is that if my electricity I am using now is 99% renewable and 1% gas then I am paying as if 100% is gas. That is why prices are so high.

The video goes into much better detail but the keyword if you want to search yourself is "marginal cost pricing.

You can still have dispatchable gas without this pricing structure.

Electricity pricing in the UK is dictated largely by the price of Gas. This is a good video that goes into it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEnFmrgEbWo

I think the middle ground is something like https://wudl.co.uk/ where your house is essentially put together from smaller modular pieces. This allows pre-construction and the efficiencies in "mass production" while allowing semi-customisation.

That is a pretty Anglo-Centric viewpoint I would say. I know of companies in Japan that are moving onto GH:E with users ranging from 20 -> 300+ of which there are probably tens of thousands similarly sized around the world that are not yet on GH or GH:E.

Github recently created a Japanese subsidiary which is telling.
