deno supports typescript out of the box whereas to run typescript in nodejs you need to transpile down to javscript first. deno also has some security features enabled by default like not allowing network communication unless you explicitly enable it. so that prevents malicious packages from making network requests that you might not have noticed. thats a great feature because tons of javascript projects/tools dont need to send http requests so if your tool doednt require that then you can be confident that any dependency you use is not secretly spying on you.

> we should care about how wealth was generated, and the gap itself is less important

what? what makes the gap less important? its a big deal if the rich get richer while the poor keep getting poorer. so what: we should just ignore that gap, and instead praise the rich because they are so smart, and talented?

> Gates owns approximately 242,000 acres of farmland with assets totaling more than $690m

yeah thats not that much? keyword is private owner. bill gates is one of the wealthiest individuals on earth so of course if he puts a fraction of his net worth into land then he will become the biggest private owner because the other private owners dont have as much money as he does.

he is NOT the biggest land owner in the united states because there are many companies that own tons and tons of land. they just arent being compared here because they are companies, and not "private owners"

this is not interesting? hes comparing raw murder numbers. differences of 150 murders to 160. what WOULD be interesting is the change in murder rate per capita, and compare that over a longer period of time to see if that number has actually increased significantly in the wider picture, not just for the dates that were cherry picked here

seriously, read through some of the quotes this guy has made over time. https://rms-open-letter.github.io/appendix

originally i thought the reason he left FSF was just because of the Minsky thing, which maybe can be excused as poor phrasing but theres such a long history of this behavior that its hard to ignore.

I know a lot of people on here strongly support RMS and want him back on the FSF, but im struggling to understand why?

What benefit will he bring to the FSF? from my pount of view it just seems like this is an argument between two opposing sports teams. some people are fans of RMS and therefore want to see him on the FSF without really considering what benefit he'd even bring.

sure he made great, useful software and is a strong voice for open source, but at this point im not sure how him being on the FSF benefits anyone but himself?

I think him being back on the FSF only benefits himself, and I dont see why we should cheer for him
