> Consumers can choose with their wallet if they're so inclined...
You really don't understand how corporate capitalism works, do you. Good, healthy, "moral" food is expensive, and believe it or not, most people (at least most Americans) can't afford to pay $4.00 for a dozen eggs from chickens that have PhDs. It's a matter of scale. If millions of people don't make enough money for hippie chicken eggs, then they _actually cannot_ choose with their wallets. What is with the fucking Hacker News crowd and their delusional belief that people are making all of these free choices to buy the worst possible crap they can shovel into their bodies instead of being forced into it by jobs that don't pay enough and food companies that cut so many corners that they can get away with charging next to nothing for cheap, delicious garbage that's just going to make people addicted anyway?
> besides most of the 'horrible living condition' propaganda is aimed at the uneducated...
Have you ever _seen_ an industrial chicken farm in the United States (or any kind of industrial farm used for raising animals for meat)? It's not just one "horrible sad chicken" that had a genetic mutation. It's _thousands_ of chickens kept in the tiniest, filthiest, shittiest conditions imaginable because some rich executive wants a fourth Mercedes.
Oh of course. Wouldn't want to be associated with feminism. But hey, you can still be a feminist, just don't call it that, right? Becauase just like men's deodorant and shaving cream, we have to have our OWN version of feminism, free from all of those WOMEN. Wouldn't want to be associated with women or have to navigate a space that isn't ours. Nope.
(Hint: this is sarcasm and feminism isn't primarily about men.)
And yet in four billion years when the sun expands and engulfs the inner planets, nothing will matter, nor will have mattered. We ARE a insignificant in the universe; I don't see how that's untrue.
Ansible has a featur called Vault that encrypts whatever you tell it to with a password. You can then upload that to version control, and when you want to deploy, you just pass the password to Ansible (either via a file or any environment variable, ideally).
I'm using it to migrate us over from keeping our SSL cert in Dropbox and 1Password and it works well.
Society would collectively decide to fund drug development because it betters all of humanity. There are ways to innovate without fucking over everyone for the sake of profit, you know.
Have we considered that these REST "anti-patterns" exist because REST is fundamentally inappropriate for what most people are trying to use it for? What if you can't shoehorn your functionality into the handful of REST verbs? What if none of the status codes make sense?
What ever happened to plain old RPC? Have we stopped to consider that people tunnel things through POST or GET requests because it's easier and more flexible than trying to cram your functionality into GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, or DELETE?
If you find yourself using a lot of these anti-patterns, maybe you should consider switching to something a little less "REST-ful".
Fun fact: if it's ridiculously loud somewhere, just cover your ears (and have your conversation partner cover theirs), and you'll be able to speak to each other at a fairly normal volume. Works great for concerts and clubs especially.
> Most of the upper-class people I know would sooner go to the club and dry-hump a stranger than throw a cocktail/dinner party (much less waltz).
Quelle horreur!
> I'm all for having fun and using a salad fork to eat dessert...
Here's where you portray yourself as someone who likes to break the mold just a little bit...
> but I'd be interested to see the world with like 25% less depravity.
...and here's where you suggest that current norms are too much and that people who don't conform to your idea of wholesome, "classy" fun are depraved.
We must have different definitions of moral superiority.
