Got excited, followed the readme and installed onto VPS. Users can join, but nothing ever happens beyond the 'waiting for people to join message'.
It seems to bind to a large number of ports (including a port 80 redirector, which isn't really helpful on a host that's likely to be serving other stuff), and I can only assume there's some hidden firewall dependency that I've missed.
Whilst I can't compare fulcrum to confluence, I can compare Zim to confluence, and they are chalk-and-cheese. Zim was designed principally as hierarchical notes-on-steroids for personal use. There's no permissions beyond the file level. I have no love for confluence (or jira for that matter); we've used both and fight both. We now use xWiki across the org for shared knowledge -- it has good access controls -- displacing confluence. Data migration was easy. For local information management, we suggest people use the tool they are most comfortable with from {dropbox paper; evernote; zim; devon-think; apple-notes; xWiki}. (We are a Mac & Linux shop).
I have an Epson multi-function ink jet which sits for months at a time unused, and because of the cartridge design (I think the print head is part of the cartridge itself?), it prints just fine regardless.
The MFDs are cheap, the carts are expensive, but it fits your usage requirements (which were similar to mine, at the time).
50 yo. congentitally profoundly deaf person here. Cochlear implant fitted last month. My quality of life has been utterly transformed: I can't imagine what life would have been like if I had had one from birth. If appropriate for the patient, the healthcare system should skip the hearing aid and go straight for an implant. If you happen to be reading this, and have a hearing loss, explore cochlear implants whatever your age.
Whilst I wish the OS hearing aid project every success, what we really need is open source implants - the pricing is even more insane than hearing aid technology and is relatively well understood. The existing, certified implants could be used, but with an OS/DIY processor - circumventing many of the potential certification issues.
Xwiki - it allows fine grained access control to pages. Design is clean, it's much lighter weight than confluence (which it replaces) and the search is also better than confluence.
Deafness is a spectrum.
If you've got sufficient hearing - and pick the right phone - it can work out. I usually have a second party on the call who can explain anything I mishear via instant messaging.
I've experimented with a wide variety of techincal solutions over the years, and I've learnt that the often-compressed bandwidth of cell phones is bad -- I avoid calls using cell phones like the plague these days.
Since I work remotely, in a private office, I can get away with using a really high quality speaker phone. With hearing aids as they are today, including digital processing and noise discrimination, it works OK.
I have a genetic/hereditary disability which has progressively deteriorated over my working career. I took the decision 10 years ago to quit my senior role at a FTSE100 and do a startup instead so that I had full control over my work load and work environment.
Fast forward to today, and I'm now only able to work for a few hours a week. The business I founded is mature, and largely manages without my input.
It's hugely frustrating not being able to do more. Given the limits I have on my output, and that I have no sensible idea of what the future holds, I almost exclusively do stuff that (a) really interests me and (b) is rewarding for me personally.
Inevitably a chronically ill person is likely to be/become depressed: I found anti-depressants really useful. I had no idea I was so depressed.
I've tried counseling, it's just not for me.
I'm actively engaged with the experts in my condition, and have gained an expert knowledge. No one else will do this for you. Neither will anyone else will take a holistic view in terms of your care.
I have a fantastically supportive SO and rarely stop to consider myself as disabled -- this is a doubled edged sword as it leads to boom and bust.
HTH in some way.
