FYI anyone curious about what this link is: it’s a “please sign our petition” page and that’s it.
Currently, my thinking is:
* Facebook is an awful company that is damaging for our democracy and communities in a lot of ways. There are some positive aspects to their services, though.
* I don't think they have quite the staying power of a Microsoft, which is deeply embedded in business.
* I am not against various government actions that would harm or curtail their business, but I want to see them discussed in a reasoned, thoughtful way, rather than just 'FACEBOOK BAD, HURT THEM!'.

It's not completely clear what they plan to do with the personal information they are collecting.
Note also the pre-checked "Opt in to email updates from Fight for the Future, OpenMedia, RootsAction.org, Win Without War , Accountable Tech, Presente.org, and Action Center on Race and the Economy"

I have a more flip idea.
Just tax (the hell out of) online advertising.
We can fund the government programs that we argue over, and restore some fiduciary balance and feedback loops to the insanity that has become "indulgence/escapism/narcism for free".

The only way big tech gets checked is that they piss off the wrong lawmaker. Not by us signing a petition.
Lately they've been playing with fire by taking a political stance, and I think that ultimately is what's going to reign them in somewhat.
^ Not specific to FB, but any of big tech/social.
