I would have thought that the US had hypersonic missiles for ages. Don't they?
Nope. They are 5-6 years behind Russia, and it seems a couple behind the Chinese.
Apparently there was some advances needed in materials science nobody bothered to invest in on the US side until 2-3 years ago, when Russia demonstrated their new toys in production.
