Ask HN: What do you think of GitHub's redesigned landing page?
I went to github.com (not signed in) and noticed the landing page is basically designed to have you sign up for Copilot X. This is fine and all, but it's made me uncomfortable to think that all my open source code is being hosted by a company that is constantly prodding me to buy their subscription for AI. What are your thoughts?

Haha, Microsoft is really pushing copilot everywhere.
It would be quite fitting adding it to MS Flight Simulator (pun intended).
On a different note, the problem about centralizing virtually all open source projects at Microsoft does come with its problems and questions. There are alternatives - use them! Especially if you share the concerns about Microsoft. Even self-hosting isn't that complex nor expensive, if you are worried that Gitlab or SourceHut are problematic also.

I have not seen the GitHub's landing page since I have signed up. I can open it but I am not going to notice what has redesigned and what has not.

from a technical (marketing) point of view, it works. I'd even say it's an example of what developer tools should strive to emulate: plain English, clear CTAs, and social proof.
on the other hand, well, yes, it's all about Copilot X. business is business?
