And on the other end of the spectrum, none of New York's airports' names contain "New York."
In London too, though, have airports like London Ashford [0] considerably further from London trying to cash in the London brand.

This will no doubt cause confusion and shouldn't be allowed to go through.
But I get where they're coming from. I'm sure there are plenty of SF visitors whose travel plans work would equally well with flying to OAK instead of SFO, but don't realize that Oakland is just across the bay from the city, or that SFO itself is a fair ways outside the the city limits and not really that much closer to downtown.
Hopefully they can work together and figure out a compromise that helps travelers realize they have options without being overly confusing.

It's much easier to get to downtown from SFO than OAK.
Double so if there's traffic.
Double so if there's traffic.
Personally I found SJC to be more convenient than both SFO or OAK. But I guess it's always limited by which flights are available at each airport.
Really? I see the same 44 minute BART ride, with the same average train frequency, though admittedly it's direct from SFO vs you have to make a connection from OAK
Why? Did people flying to Oakland Michigan mistakenly end up in California?
If they want to attract SF visitors, how about calling it Oakland-SFBAY?

Give that SFO isn't in San Francisco either, I don't have a huge problem with this.

That's just straight up scamming.
Can't please everyone.
In a circle around London with distances ranging from 8 to 40 miles from the city. Doesn’t seem that confusing for travellers, just gives them more options.
